+ It is everything I want. It has replaced my very annoying top box to get digital televison. I can record programmes in a high quality on the HD and watch them at my leisure. I am a 72 year old woman and was able to fix it up myself.

- So far, I have not discovered any bad points.

+ I found this Panasonic model very easy to set up. I was worried that I could not watch one side while recording another side but this model let me do this easily. I have been on this site and other people have said that the Sony models will not let you do this. I went on the "Which" website and they told me that many people found that the Panasonic dvd recorders are very good. Manual very easy to read and understand.

- None so far. I have only had the dvd rec. a month and have yet to finalise a dvd but I am sure this will be easy as the manual is easy to understand.

+ Does what it says on the box, great picture and sound. Really easy Guide.

- None apart from its desire to delete ALL of your program list if you allow the Freeview update when a new channel is added, otherwise you get the annoying message asking you to do it. This is not unique to this product, both the previous Panasonic DVD recorders did the same

+ Extremely easy to use. Set up was an absolute doddle, and it is a Panasonic-a fabulous product.

- Although not too bad a point, the manual is very comprehensive and therefore there is a lot to take in. The basics though are very good.

Score 10.0/10

+ No need to have an additional digital box. Easy to record programs showing at a later time without bothering to input channel, start time, end time etc. just click the program shown in the programme guide. No need to find an empty disc to record onto for something you will only watch once and then delete.

- None as yet. My husband can't work it!

Score 9.0/10

+ By far the easiest to use - quality images and easy to record with and navigate round the system.

- A frustrating point is the freequent request to 'update' which removes pre set recordings - at least it doesnt wipe out all recordings like other leading brands do

+ Very easy to use - even my wife records programs now, picture quality excellent especially on DVD upscaling. The Viera link function is fantastic as is the ability to pause live TV. I keep finding more things out about the recorder which keep on impressing me.

- Non so far, although the DVD tray feels as though it could be a litte more substantial, but this in no way causes a problem.

Expert reviews for Panasonic DMR-EX769

Pocket Lint expert review

The DMR-EX769 brings together a range of features that modern lifestyles often demand. It not only gives you all the advantages of Freeview+, but also rolls a DVD recorder into the same box. But is this jack of all trades and master of none? The EX769 is a standard 43cm wide and 26cm deep, although you'll have to allow a little extra space for the large fan on the back and any cables you attach...

Manufacturer's Description

DVD Recorder with HDD (160GB) and Digital Tuner

1080p Up-Conversion By interpolating video data using proprietary algorithms, SD format data is up-converted to 1080 × 1920p HD format video data. This conversion to HD format increases the richness of the original data by approximately six fold, and produces the highest possible image quality when viewing content on a large-screen HDTV. Adaptive HD Enhancer Enjoy watching crisper and sharper video enabled by detailed reproduction of contents on DVD and HDD.

Auto Preset Down Load Connect a DIGA DVD recorder to your VIERA TV via an HDMI cable, and the TV channel setting information is automatically downloaded to the DIGA recorder. Direct TV Rec. If you want to record the program you’re watching, you can start immediately by pressing the VIERA Link button on the VIERA remote control and selecting “Direct TV Rec.” on the VIERA Link menu screen. Pause Live TV Pause Live TV lets you freeze TV programmes just like pausing a DVD, by selecting ""Pause Live TV"" on the VIERA Link Menu.

When recording a TV programme, this function determines where new scenes begin (by “listening” to the voices in the programme) and automatically inserts chapter marks at those places. This makes it easy to skip over adverts and start playback from a particular point.

Fan Control Technology for Quiet Operation DMR-EX769 feature an advanced control system that automatically adjusts fan speed based on information received from an internal heat sensor. When the internal temperature rises, the fan turns on to prevent overheating. When the temperature is low, the fans shuts off entirely, providing whisper-quiet operation. Floating Structure Locating the damper closer to the hard disk drive than in conventional hard disk drive mounting effectively improves absorption of hard disk drive vibrations. DVD Drive Control The DVD drive operates only when a disc is inserted, eliminating unnecessary noise.

Intelligent Auto Standby After watching and listening with the compatible DVD recorder automatically turns off when you return to the TV using the VIERA remote. * 2009 VIERA TV Standby Power Save DVD recorder with Quick Start function will turn on/off when TV is turned on/off. * 2009 VIERA TV
