+ This is a excellent product very quiet very reliable and excellent picture quality and because all my other equipment is Panasonic it means that one remote just about works the lot with the Vieira link.

- Only one bad points that is not really a problem, there is advertising board on the left hand side of the TV guide screen which takes up quite a lot of room! If you've seen the guide screen on a Panasonic TV you'll know how it should be done.

+ A useful green flag showing against programmes that have been recorded to HDD - these are programmes that you haven't yet watched. The guide link is very good compared with a version of the recorder we bought about 18 months ago - this records programmes when they are actually broadcast eg Coronational St when it starts early or finishes late. You don't miss the end of dramas or films.

- On just an odd occasion the machine fails to record at all for no apparent reason - the hard drive isn't full and it's usually the first programme that it's been set to record.

+ Fairly easy to set up.
Very comprehensive device.
Not all facilities tested as yet.

- Deep case - does not fit easily onto our tv stand so needs care with the connectors or they become loose and disconnect, and then you have to resort toremounting the unit.

+ Another great product from Panasonic and recommended by Which to boot! This DVD recorder is very easy to set up and recording is straight forward with the programme guide. The product is small and neat and very smart to look at and I am sure that it will have the same superb reliability of my other Panasonic products (three TVs, two VCRs and a breadmaker!). At the price I paid, this product was much more than excellent value.

- The instruction manual is huge and I am sure that I will never use all the advanced features that the machine has as I do not have the time to read through all the stuff to work out what to do. Also, still love my VCRs where I can stop a programme part way through and go back to it another day or rewind the tape a fraction to have another look at something funny.

Expert reviews for Panasonic DMR-EX768

TechRadar expert review

It may be Panasonic's entry-level DVD/HDD recorder, but the smart-looking DMR-EX768 delivers all of the essentials. Unless you're living in an area without usable Freeview coverage, that is; this budget marvel, like the rest of Panasonic's digital-ready range, lacks an analogue tuner.Missing featuresProvision has been made for external RGB Scart sources like digital cable and Sky, but while the EX768 takes advantage of the increasingly-familiar GuidePlus EPG, external IR control of set-top boxes is unsupported. Also missing are the USB ports, i.Link port, SD card slots, CD-ripping…

The new VIERA Link function of the DMR-EX768 is more advanced. Auto Preset Download does away with the need to make channel and other initial the DMR-EX768 settings. Direct TV Rec. lets the user start recording the TV program that is currently being watched by simply pressing the VIERA Link button on the VIERA remote and selecting Direct TV Rec. Pause Live TV pauses a TV program with the same ease as pausing a DVD disc. The rest of the program can then be watched at a later time, right from the point where it was paused.
