TechRadar expert review

To satisfy those put-off from buying into Blu-ray due to region coding, internet-based disc importer MovieTyme is offering the Panasonic DMP-BD60 as a 'hacked' version which will play Blu-ray and DVD discs from Regions 1, 2 and 3. On test here, is a 240V-powered UK model, guaranteed for a year, which doesn't involve any tricky importing, or extra duty payment ‚Äì and MovieTyme even promises that any firmware upgrades can be done without affecting the unit's multiregion capabilities. DVD players and Digital Video Recorders (DVD/HDD recorders) Buying Guide

Manufacturer's Description

PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus is a high quality image-processing technology developed by Panasonic to precisely process each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc™ video signal in the vertical direction. It reproduces colour data with twice the accuracy of conventional systems to keep colours faithful and sharp.

Panasonic’s developed high-precision 4:4:4 signal technology also processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc™ video signal in the horizontal direction, to complement vertical direction processing. When viewed on a VIERA high-end model, which features 4:4:4 signal compatibility, it recreates images with the original film quality to further enhance movie enjoyment.

Because these models are compatible with the VIERA CAST function, you can access YouTube™, Picasa™, and other Internet sites from the special VIERA CAST screen. YouTube™ lets you watch the newest video clips, and Picasa™ lets you view Web-based photos. You can also check weather and stock information on other sites.

The Blu-ray Disc™ players feature decoders that are compatible with all of the latest 7.1-channel surround sound formats used by the Blu-ray Disc™ standard.

These Blu-ray Disc™ players are equipped with an SD memory card slot and USB Terminal, so you can immediately view motion images recorded with an HD camcorder in AVCHD format*, and JPEG images taken with a digital still camera. * AVCHD-format on USB devices cannot be playback.
