+ Great looking camera with a solid build quality. For such a quality camera it's extremely easy to use. The quality of the images are exceptional.

- I would have preferred a few little extra fun features but this is not something that really matters.

+ more than enough features for every occaision very easy to use good size screen most important the camera reacts quickly between shots this is a failure in other cameras i have used altogetheri would recomend it espesially the quality of the lens

- buttons on the back need to be clearer perhaps alittle bigger i found it a bit fiddley to get used to and not having the best eye sight claerer larger markings would be a benefit

+ I have been using a camera that is only 4 megapixels so this one is great compared to that one! I couldn't decide between the TZ4 and the TZ5 but i'm glad I got the TZ4 as there isn't that much of a difference except the TZ4 being a much better price!

- It didn't come with a free camera case (like it advertised) and it is quite hard to find one that is the right size!

+ Very quick charging battery, nice "feeling" camera and lots of varying features. Handy to have 2 scene modes available as a shortcut. My previous Panasonic I sold as the flash was too harsh and there's no way to alter it. There's still no way to alter it but this model is much improved in that department.

- To "change" the colour is a longwinded menu navigation. Could do with a shortcut facility. Has taken some very "simple" shots blurred for some reason....it's taking longer to perfect than other digis I've owned, including a previous Panasonic.

+ I chose the TZ4 mainly because it has the same excellent screen and zoom lens as the TZ5, but is a lot cheaper. The extra features offered by the TZ5 are not worth the extra cost in my opinion.

- The "intelligent" automatic setting claims to recognise what the lens sees, but I got poor results with indoor groups. Using the appropriate "scene" setting instead worked fine, however.

+ Having researched before purchasing I had been recommended to get more optical zoom on a camera rather than higher resolution. 8.1mp is more than enough for any personal photography. The camera is easy to use. It is slightly bigger than a lot of compact digital cameras but for 10x optical zoom you can understand the need for this. Also the video quality is really good, records at NTSC 30fps. I purchased a 8gb memory card which allows for more than 1900 photographs at highest resolution.

+ Picture Quality is vastly superior to a similarly priced Fuji that I had previously, Zoom, Wide Angle.

- The only thing I could be picky about would be the size of the LCD which I believe is bigger anyway on the latest version of this camera.

- we liked the function on our last camera that you could leave the date showing on the picture if you wanted, we cant do that on this camera, and the price of a tailored fitting case.

Expert reviews for Panasonic DMC TZ4

TechRadar expert review

This is a remarkable lens in a remarkable camera. First, all other superzooms are scaled down SLR designs, which are just too bulky to slide into your pocket. The Panasonic TZ4 isn't. It's fatter than the average digital compact, true, but it's still slim enough to fit in a pocket. It's a genuine go-anywhere just-in-case camera. An impressive lensSecond, with a couple of exceptions, other superzooms concentrate the extra focal length at the telephoto end of the scale. You can fill the frame with a roe deer in the next county, but you still can't squeeze in the whole family at a birthday…
