Score 2.0/10
Good points:
The hardware part does allow me to capture VCR output into my PC, but the instructions how to connect it were not as simple as they should have been. I somehow got the impression that using a S-video cable was preferable to the 3-cable link provided. After going to some lengths to buy a S-video to S-video cable, it turned out to be useless. I had a Scart to 3-pin adaptor and this enabled me to connect the Scart output of my VCR via the small box to my laptop USB - the only satisfactory solution.
Bad points:
The documentation of the Cyberlink director was not very helpful, and like a lot of other add-on software was not at all new-user-friendly, and prone to dead ends in the hands of less experienced users.Less features but a more robust implementation would have been more useful. One project, though, had to be aborted because the software could not handle Dolby Digital sound. In future, I plan to use the box for my VCR to laptop connection, but am looking at other alternative software that is already on my laptop.
