nice design, keyboard is good, feels sturdy, the resistive screen is as good as the capacitive.
quite a few built in apps out of the box.

- you need a nokia account for push e-mail to work.
GPS seems to lag a bit, ie i drive past a turn off and the GPS says i havent passed it yet. i have tested this on nokia maps and garmin XT, its hopefully going to be a software fix.

+ Really sexy looking phone, I was so excited about it. The qwerty kepad is great although the space bar is in a weird place. Comes with a stylus for those of you with fat fingers. Vibrate when you hit the touch pad is really cool.

- Only had it 2 days and a fault kept occuring - I had 8 texts in my inbox but I got an ERROR Memory Full and could only fix it by taking the battery out and putting it back in. Do you really want to do this to a phone that's 2 days old?? There is a slide button at the side of the phone to lock/unlock the keys, 50% of the time you press it to unlock the keys the backlight doesn't come on and you can't see anything so you have to spam the unlock button until the screen lights up. There were a few other small problems with the phone, such as the apps on the home screen freezing. Very annoying and the software update only just came out so I suggest you should check to see if all the bugs are fixed in it before you buy this phone. Huge disappointment because it looks so good and has huge potential.

+ Camera is excellent. Qwerty keyboard makes this phone very easy to use for texts and web browsing, battery life is much better than my old N95. 32gb memory is huge!

- Having had two N97's on two different networks, I have found the reception/signal (call quality) to be very poor, which makes this phone almost unusable in average/poor signal areas. Phone has now been replaced with the N97 mini, which appears to have solved the reception problems.

- Cheap look and feel. Hardware problems such as GPS and low memory make things that were easy on older Nokias a bit of a challenge on this one.
Software is tested on the users these days so it goes wrong more than an iphone. Hopefully this will be rectified with more firmware.

+ It has a very good size screen and easy navigation makes light of the new features. The lock on the side of the phone secures peace of mind to avoid accidental dialling whilst phone is in your pocket etc The N97 has a seperate headphone jack so you can listen to music and charge up your phone at the same time. The qwerty keyboard is easy to use and fits your fingers perfectly without accidentally pressing other keys unintentionally. The web browser is very good and the widgets on the home screen allow connection to facebook and other sites with a simple quick touch on screen. A super phone. One novel idea with the N97 is the FM trasmitter, it allows you to whilst in your car say tune your N97 into an unused radio frequency allowing all your music stored on your N97 to play through the radio!!! a great idea and works exceptionally well.

- The battery life is not as good as you would expect and the ovi music store is still in its infancy and needs improvements.

+ Coming from the Nokia E71, which I consider to be the best phone I have ever used, I bought the N97 with a bit of apprehension. This is especially after reading numerous user reviews and forum comments regarding bugs and so on with this phone. Luckily I haven't experienced such problems. Generally, I do find the N97 to be very good, especially for web surfing. Calls were very clear and loud. Despite what I've read elsewhere, signal reception is very good. The touchscreen takes a bit of getting used to and the keyboard while good, is not as tactile to use as the one on the E71. However, the option to use either the keyboard or the touchscreen for text input is most welcome. The camera is great, as one would expect from an N-series. The video quality too is quite superb for a phone. So overall, I would highly recommend this phone.

- The battery life I would consider as slightly disappointing. I use it for quite a bit of web surfing, texting and some calls and on average I would expect the battery to last one day. So a daily charge is required. My previous E71 would last about 3 days for the same type of use. Well I guess the big screen uses a lot of power. The only other downside, is the two year contract that I have to sign up to for this phone. However, that is the price I guess for the latest piece of gadgetry.

+ Overall a fantastic phone! had read so many negative reviews about the phone that at one point was going to sell it. However sale did not go as to plan and had to end up using it. After using the phone it has become another part of me (MJ 1988) The phone has all the features that I required including fantastic web browsing, email, video calling, an office package and much much more. The phone also boasts a 5 mega pixel camera with a Carl Zeis lens, far better than the htc, blackberry and i phone rubbish. The picture quality considering this is a smart phone, is fabulous. The phone also has QWERTY slide out keypad as well as a touch screen keypad which is also very convienient. I could go on for ever praising this phone however am very short of time. Final Thought - A fantastic phone that has been very highly under - estimated.

- The phones software needs to be regulerly updated in order to maintain efficiency. The software update however can be done directly from the phone and does not require the phone to be taken into a Nokia service centre. The battery life may have some scope for improvement. If you are going to use the phone via hands free n the car make sure that you do have a car charger !

+ The phone is lightweight, compact, attractive and has a large screen, making viewing videos and pictues easy on the eyes. The extra applications -- facebook, amazon atc -- mean that you can do many of the everyday internet things without having to have a laptop or pc, and the notes application is extremely useful!

- The clock and a couple of other bits are at the top of the screen, and you can't move it somewhere else, which can ruin the view of wallpapers. Navigating can be a bit of a pain until you're used to the controls, though on the whole once you've got them sussed it's pretty easy. The speakers are a little tinny sounding, but since the phone isn't actually a music phone like the 5800, you can forgive it!

Summary of Nokia N97 Reviews from Across the Web

The Nokia N97, has a 3.5″ touchscreen, 5MP camera (with Carl Zeiss Tessar lens) and flash, a huge 32GB of storage with an extra 16GB via the Micro SD slot, GPS with built-in compass and WiFi. And if you get fed up of having to keep charging up your phone, the N97 has 400 hours of standby time! Along with 37 hours of music and 4.5 hours of video playback. There's also a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, fully customisable home screen, Symbian S60 software, N-Gage games and all the syncing you expect from Nokia. Look out for the Nokia N97 in March.
