+ Awesome camera, much better in my opinion than the Canon 5D Mark 2 which I had for a month before returning it and buying the D700. Essentially a D3 in a lighter body, so the same top of the line AF, low noise and overall performance as Nikon's top end pro body. Canon deliberately crippled the 5D which has rubbish AF. So in my view no contest, and worth changing systems for.

- Only negative is the lack of video which doesn't matter to me and if you really care about it, the price difference between the 2 compensates for buying a video cam.

+ This is a fantastic camera.I have been dreaming about getting a D700 for a while and finally managed it.It does NOT disappoint. From an imager quality point of view it is amazing-even on a cheap 50 quid lens. For low light it cannot be beaten and is on a par with the D3 for low light usability.I highly recommend it and would NOT give it up now unless something better I could afford came through. No chance of me affording the D3xs then!

- I have not found any bad points with this camera. Its perfect!

+ Amazing image quality, I`ve given it a 9/10 for ease of use -only because this is my first DSLR so I guess if you have had a Nikon before it would be very similar and therefore easier to use.

- cost, but then compared with the D3 and D3x its not too bad!

Expert reviews for Nikon D700 (Body Only)

PC Advisor expert review - by Gavin Stoker

Sitting between the enthusiast pleasing Nikon D300 and pro-level Nikon D3 models, the newer 12.1Mp Nikon D700 suggests a 'best of both worlds' semi-pro option.

TechRadar expert review

The Nikon D3 caused quite a stir when it burst onto the market last autumn. It was Nikon's first full-frame SLR, breaking the monopoly that Canon had held for so long. However, the D3 is an expensive buy, and its price puts it beyond the reach of many photographers.Which is where the Nikon D700 comes in. This shares the D3's 12-megapixel full-frame sensor, but it's housed in a smaller, D300-sized body. Only the taller pentaprism gives it away. Dust-free snapsApart from cost and size, the other main difference is the frame rate. The D700 can't match the D3's 8fps, but 5fps still isn't b…
