Vented dryers have a hose which transfers the waste, damp air out of the machine and through a hole in the wall or a window to the outside. They are less expensive than condenser machines but the hose means they need to be placed by an outside wall.

Condenser machines collect the excess water within the machine which can then be emptied after use. They therefore do not need a hose and can be placed anywhere in the house.

This refers to where you can load the washing into the machine. Front loading is when the door is on the front of the machine and top loading is when you put washing in through an opening at the top of the machine.

When purchasing a top loading machine, make sure you have enough room to open the hatch (top loading machines cannot be placed under a worktop). When looking for front loading machines, take note of which way the door opens so that you can make sure you have enough room to take washing in and out of the machine.
