LG F1402FDS reviews: Front Loading loading, 9kg capacity washing machine

+ It takes a large load, is clear and precise about times for the cycles, it's the second LG I have owned and although I didn't think they could improve them, they managed.

- The instruction book (it's actually more like a leaflet) It doesn't explain much, it should tell you the machine itself gives you more information on how to work it.

+ Quiet operation, and cannot be overloaded with its onboard technology.

- pricey

+ Looks good and has good features.

- Cycles are quite long unless you choose a delicate or quick wash option.

+ Large load capacity.The steam refresh feature.Very quite.

- Door too low to have a washing basket under it when you open it.

+ Once you become familar with the programmes the machine is quite straightforward to use, and the quick cycle produces excellent results on stubborn marks. Overall, excellent wash results and an extremely quiet performance.

- You can't perform a pre-wash with the quick wash cycle

+ So far the machine seems to be good. I have not had any problems. As its got a huge drum capacity my loads have cut down as I can fit more in the machine. Its quite easy to use although could do with more instructions, as the booklet is not that comprehensive. It tells you how long the washing will take and the amount you have placed in, which I think is a great feature.

- The only downside at the moment is that some of the cycles you put the machine on for take quite long. For example if you use Cotton quick and then add the steam or intensive wash on, or change the temperature, it can take over 2 hours. However I would still reccommend the machine.

+ The steam cleaning function is brilliant and amazes us with it's stain removable ability!!! With our old machine we used to be forever throwing away our babies stain poohed vests regardless of wash cycle, powder or additives we used but now we use the steam cycle and normal washing powder and they come out like new.

- The only downside, is that you can't seem to perform just a rinse cycle.

+ simple to use, steam refresh a great option when clothes just need a quick boost (only takes 20 mins)

+ Very easy to use, no noise at all, we can change the spin level, also we can add more rinse.
Overall is very economic because we can change the temperature from cold to more tha 60 Degrees.

+ Amazing fatures and the quietest washing machine on a 1400 spin i have ever heard, we dont even have to close the kitchen door anymore to listen to the TV when there is a wash going on.
it is so simple anyone can use it. expensive !! maybe but we think worth every penny.

+ I chose this washing machine because of its energy rating and the large capacity.
Also because of the steam option.
It is very quiet. I am trying to do more washing in one load so as to run fewer washes which should help with the efficiency. It tells you the weight of your load but only after you have set the wash on.

- On reflection I prefer to have both hot and cold fill which I had before. Also the steam facility option seems to be more of a gimmick than anything else. I have used the refresh option on 3 shirts and they still needed ironing afterwards. Although it is supposed to be more energy efficient most wash options still seem to take a long time.

+ Child Lock! Quietness of operation. Easy to use. Although some features need better explination.

- More literature for explaining the different features.

+ Large drum size allows 2 normal loads on at once also it is so quiet when it is on.

- On 1400rpm spin it is noisy because of the vibration in my laundry cupboard.
May be ok on a hard floor

+ Very quiet operation. Lots of programmes and informative display. Huge drum capacity, one white wash and one coloured wash a week for a family of four. Looks cool!

- Long programmes but it does get the washing clean.

+ Quiet operation and you can complete your family wash in half a day due to large drum size. Clothes not as creased when unloading and 1400 spin speed for cotton. Economical on electricity and water as machine detects wash load and only uses water for that weight.

- Steam wash does not always get grease marks out of T'shirts.

+ Everything, this is my second LG washing machine, only changed to this one because of the bigger load, have four children so you can imagine the washing I have!

+ Great Capacity, love the steam feature, on maximum spin the clothes come out virtually dry, looks great.

- The manual is poor, it is technical rather then feature based. It is expensive

+ Big capacity, energy efficiency, very quiet. Doing many fewer loads each week, with a lot less water and electricity.

- Lots of choices, which can be complex or great if you want them. Long cycle times, but do fewer loads.

+ Has a direct drive motor so is very silent when washing. Has a massive drum (I bought the 9kg version), so can wash more in one go. Has the option to steam refresh clothes, so if you have just worn something for a couple of hours and just want to freshen it up you can do.

- Nothing yet. We haven't used the steam option that much (it washes with or without steam, steam being for v. dirty laundry) so may have been better buying a large capacity washing machine as this machine is quite expensive, but the direct drive motor was also a big pull for us as there is no belt to break.

+ Steam cleaning and refresh is excellent and main reason for buying; it is incredibly quite compared to my last machine, so far its been an excellent investment. The steam refresh left the delicate wool top looking virtually crumple free and fresh. Just waiting for the weather to impriove to wash the big items like duvets!

+ Very efficient washer, which is quiet especially during the spin cycle. I have no criticism of it at all.

- The only negative point is NOT the washer, but the instruction book, which is not very helpful at all. The saving grace with that is the machine controls are self explanatory except I have discovered one function completely by accident.

+ I have so much washing in my house that my old washing machine always used to be on,but with this one id say id almost halved the amount of times i have to put it on.It took me a while to get used to fact that i dont have put my washing on every day.This machine saves me time and money and i love it.

+ Childlock fantastic as we have a curious 2 year old. Drum capacity brilliant, can do what would normally be 2 loads in 1. Steam wash is great for soiled whites. Haven't had chance to use all functions as yet.

- Unable to do spin only, but can live with that.

- It is a bit slow - even for smaller loads.

+ The steam feature on this machine is a great idea. You can freshen up clothes that don't need a full wash, and it leaves clothes with very little creasing. It is also incredibly quiet - ideal for an open plan kitchen/dining room.

+ The washing machine is so quiet that we can happily sit in the same room and wash the television/ eat and not be disturbed. Also good when we need to do some washing overnight.

+ Refresh cycle has cut my ironing by 90 %. I use it for steam smoothing three items of clean, dry washing and it works on everything from t-shirts to jeans and trousers. It also works for shirts and most of them now only need a light iron, or no ironing at all. It was well worth the money for this feature alone, my ironing pile has disappeared!!
The machine is quiet and efficient, has a huge drum capacity and clothes do seem to come out cleaner on the steam wash.
I love the tune at the end of the cycle and would throughly recommend this machine despite its high cost in comparison to other models, it's worth the extra money.

- The spin cycle can sometimes be a bit oversensitive and not spin a load as it says it is 'unbalanced.'
There is no spin only cycle.
The instructions that come with the machine are not particularly clear.
The cycles are a bit long, but the washing does come out very clean, so for me this is not a problem.
The bad points would not stop me from recommending this machine to others.

+ Love this machine! I thought my old Dyson was great till I got this. It weighs the clothes and does a good job of cleaning them. It also provides entertainment in the form of an animation and a tune at the end. I have a lot of LG equipment and it has always been reliable.

- Cycles can be a bit long. Instructions not clear on how to make it just spin - I found out by trial and error. On balance, these are minor issues.

+ Excellent cleaning performance, very quiet spin, good range of cycles and can take a large load.
Looks good and feels solid - well engineered.
Energy efficiency is hard to measure but it's reassuring to see it weigh every load and presumably it uses water etc appropriate to the weight.
Controls are simple for anyone not phased by a digital display - the washer has a step by step cycle selection.

- Long cycles, cannot do spin only (as far as I can tell)
Musical tones on power up and end of cycle may annoy some but I like them. They can be switched off.
Default temperature on a cotton wash is 60* and you have to change every time for the more energy saving 40*

+ Quiet and fantastic cleaning even witha full drum. Big drum size so less wash loads.

- Takes longer than our old machine but then I would rather it take longer and clean properly.

+ Great looking stylish machine. Drum size is huge and makes light work of big wash loads. Extremley quite in operation. So far it's been great and i would recommend this machine.

- Kids like to push buttons and if its in mid wash you have to start again.

+ Everything about it. Tune when finsihed and you can open the door right away. Easy to use. Weighs your load and only runs as long as it needs. Steam refresh. As I said everything.

- None. OK maybe just one, the child lock is not automatic so if you forget to engage then someone can lean against it and switch it off. Then you have to start the cycle again. But no biggy, just remember to turn the lock on.

+ Brilliant machine. Very quick on the high spin short cycle, getting clothes virtually dry and so reduces the amount of time needed for tumble drying. Large drum size ideal for families, looks smart and plays a tune when starting and finishing!

- Sticks out a bit, but I am nit-picking!!!

+ Steam cycle is very useful. It reduces the amount of creases in the clothes after the wash. The machine is very quiet. You can open the door as soon as the music indicating the cycle is finished - finishes. The LED screen tells you the weight of the load in the machine and how long the wash will take. The machine is easy to operate but it might take a few goes to get used to it. This machine is smaller than our old one but it is of a much higher specification than our old one. The silver colour makes a nice change to the usual white machines. You can choose how much spin you want or if you want no spin at all.

- The wash can take a very long time - sometimes about three hours but that is with the intensive feature, the medic rinse feature and the steam cycle. It would have been useful to have had the mixed fabrics cycle as that is what we're used to.

+ Have always been impressed with LG products, having purchased a couple of electronics over the past few months. Decided to go for the LG washer, after my husband had a read an article about it, which is wierd seeing as he doesnt know how to work a washer!!. Read good reviews for it, so i purchased it!!. It takes 9kg of clothes, ideal if you have a large family, or need to wash a duvet. The clothes are actually weighed when you start your cycle, this decides on how long the cycle will take, can be between an hour 30 to 2 hours 30. Has a baby care wash, allergens wash, steam clean wash, which i find brilliant, especially when washing very dirty rugby gear!!. And it does actually reduce the ironing!! The washer when it arrived looked so confusing to use, but im 100% satisfied with it.

- Downside of using the washer, it plays a irritating tune when you switch it on, and when a cycle has finished it plays another equally irritating tune, but this function can be switched off, thankfully!!

+ Very quiet and the wash results are really good. It also has the benefit of looking great!

- A bit pricey but I needed it to be quiet so that is why I went for it.

- Had difficulty fitting in a single high tog sleeping bag. It went into the drum but the item didn't turn around in there. It only weighed 2 KG so wasn't over weight!

+ Superb wash - steam function (especially on refresh) is excellent (I thought that it would just be a gimmic!!). Quiet, easy to use. Readily takes king size duvet (9.0 tog). Couldn't be happier at this point.

- Minor niggle - I now need to buy a bigger washing line to take all the clothes that it can handle in one wash cycle!
Time only will tell in respect of reliability (2 washing machines in 16 years is something to compete with). If anything goes, and I hope not, I put money on the fact that it will be the steam function.
