Score 10.0/10

+ Excellent picture quality with a HD source (PS3, Bluray etc.) and surprisingly good SD quality. The sound is a lot better than I had expected it to be (normally on a flat panel lcd the sound is slightly "lack-luster" but LG's new invisible speakers are fantastic - I had thought we might need surround sound but the built in speakers are more than adequate. The 100Hz mode makes for crystal clear motion with no blurring I have experienced as of yet. The built in Freesat HD is superb when watching Wimbledon tennis on BBC HD!
There are also lots of tweaking and calibration options - so even if you are not happy with the original settings you can alter them for your preferance. However, the factory settings are very good - if not a bit dark and this is very easy to change.
Tuning in freesat / digital and analogue went without hitch and I was up and running in minutes. A truely great product from LG and one that is thoroughly reccommended.

- Sometimes in dark scenes the black levels cause detail to be lost - but this can significantly be improved by adjusting the many settings in the options menu.

+ The set up of the T.V. is easy, however the instruction book is a little poor. Suggest that new owner looks at the CD rom first. The picture and sound quality is fantastic. Huge range of channels with the Freesat and Freeview. The set looks great in the black, either mounted on the wall or free standing. Over-all its a fantastic T.V. and the best value for money. Highly recommended.

- Instruction book is lacking, but watch the D.V.D and everything is clear. If you want the Freesat, you need and extra cable from your Satalite Dish, and honestly is not worth it. The quality of the Freeview is fantastic, and the BBC HD is no better than every other channel provided.

+ Fantastic value for money. Very easy to use and great picture quality.

- When you change the scart input, the TV does not change automatically all the time from one to another and has to be done manually. Anoying when you plug the camara in and you have to get the remote to change the input.

- Freesat is limited to 1 satellite (28.2E -ASTRA) and should cater for other satellites of User's choice.
LG Support is slow and not very promising on the above subject.

+ Sound is good, HD very good, SD fair.
24p it is strange at first but for me more realistic when one get used to.

- In SD Mode even at 100Hz and truMotion the tele is slow with artifacts on screen.
I have seen cheaper and slower tele doing a better job.
Very confusing how to set up favourites, move and sort channels.
My main reason for buying this tele was for the Freesat, not to have an extra box. But taken all into account I wish I didn't.

Expert reviews for LG 42LF7700

TechRadar expert review

Integrated satellite TVs have experienced a renaissance under Freesat, with Panasonic's impressive Viera line into its second generation and this, the first of LG's hi-def Freesat screens, the 42LF7700.It's based on the top-end LG7000 range, with almost the same Full HD 1080p spec, and has siblings in 32in, 37in and 47in.All share the same glossy black design, with a smoked-plastic lower bezel that also helps direct sound from the invisible woofers. Unlabelled touch-sensitive input, menu, OK, volume and programme buttons are hidden on the right side. It's well-specified for connections:…
