Hotpoint Ultima WMD960 reviews: Front Loading loading, 8kg capacity washing machine

+ By far the best machine we have purchased to date. Has a large drum size and hardly notice it is on!

+ Fantastic machine..... very quiet during spin cycle, excellent spin speed ensures the clothes are only damp when finished. Love the fast wash cycles, can do a full load in 30 mins for non heavily soiled items.

+ Large drum. Relatively quiet - but far from silent. Following a 1600 spin cycles washing is very dry but see comments below. Timer useful so that start time can be preset, for example an early start so that washing can be ready to hang out first thing - especially given how long some of the programmes take to run.

- The 1600 spin cycle is only available on a limited number of programmes and this can't be over-ridden. The only option is to go through the pre-set programme and then reset for a fast spin cycle. Some of the programmes are very long - well over 2 hours. The time remaining indicator isn't reliable. From my experience what is shown as the last minute of the spin cycle can last over 20 minutes, presumably to ensure the maximum amount of water is spun from the washing.

the spin is excellant, items are nearly dry. machine is quiet machine does not get a bad smell like my last one (Bosch)

- machine was selected so that I could get a single duvet in it, it does fit, just but it's a struggle and I have to force the door shut.

+ So simple to use tells you the time of each cylcle before you start so you can decide which programme to use.Some good short cycles and 40 wash only 1hr 25 although the final couples of minutes seem to actually be more like 10 minutes but a very good machine.

- Not really any bad points but although it is described as super quiet that only applies to the washing process during a spin it is pretty much the same as the rest.

+ Big drum size great for my mucky family!!! Love the super wash option for very dirty stuff. Combines with energy efficiency including option to do a cold water wash with more agitation. Very easy to use and very quiet.

- seems to struggle with our low water pressure - tells us late in cycle that it has no water, but then proceeds to wash the clothes

- I suspect that all washing machines have come on leaps and bounds since my previous purchase, but compared to that old thing, I can't think of a bad point.

- Only nit-picking, but there's no way to activate the child lock if it's switched off (the first thing my 17 month old did was press the big button in the circle (on) and then the one that started glowing (start wash!).

+ This is just what I wanted. It has a 1600 spin speed and the clothes come out really dry. The machine is the quietest I have ever had and washes the clothes well. It also looks good and has easy to use controls. I like the fact it tells you how long the cycle will be and also how long there is to go to the end of the cycle.

- Not really any, however I would like to be able to increase the spin speed on some of the programmes that have 800 spin speed which you cannot do. It just means I have to use a spin only programme at the end of the wash which is not really a problem.

+ Overall, quite pleased with this machine. It spins the clothes really dry which cuts down time in the tumble dryer! Clothes come out really clean and it is very easy to use with a wide range of useful features, including options to change the temperature of your wash from the presets and economy features to save time and money. Drum size means you can get a 'family' size load in with ease.

- The fast spins are noisy - much more than expected and louder than my previous machine from a different manufacturer. Having said that, it is still a reasonably quiet machine throughout 95% of it's wash cycle. You only really hear it on the fast spins.

+ Large drum size is brilliant. Easy to use controls and digital display let you know where the cycle has got to and how long is left. Remembers last program used. Useful set of pre-programmed cycles which are easily adapted to reduce temperature etc as required.

+ The machine has a massive 8KG load capacity, fantastic with three children, and is still very quiet on a 1600 spin. The controls are very easy to use with no dial just a digital display.

+ The Hotpoint washing machine is very easy to use, it has an excellent spin speed, you also have a wide choice of wash cycles and it is energy efficient. The spin cycle is also very quite.
