Hotpoint SDW60 Reviews: Freestanding, 45cm wide, White Dishwasher

+ This is my third dishwasher,but by far the best one yet.

- Can not think of one.

+ Good looking and streamline. Easy controls. Delay start is a bonus for cheap rate electricity users.

- Cutlery holder is too light and moves about when loading. Should be bigger and sturdier.

+ NOTE:This is the first one I've owned, so I don't really have anything to compare with.
Hardly any noise; easy to operate; quick wash

- I find putting the tablets in the dispenser a bit tricky! the dispenser seems too small for them.

+ Cleaning very good, very powerfull wash.

- Top tray difficult to load cups, they tend to tip over.

+ Low cost. Handles on loading baskets are useful.

- Does not dry as well as previous dishwashers i have had

+ It washes dishes and I don't have to - enough said! It has a quick wash cycle. a regular cycle (which I use) - fits quite a lot of regular dishes in - not so much with pans, baking trays etc. I had read a few reviews where people said selecting a wash cycle could be tricky as it defaults to the extensive wash setting - to be honest I've never had that problem because I'm not stupid enough to not select the program before I press start- if you too aren't stupid then this machine is for you - very straight forward.

- the top tray doesn't always push back as it should which stops the door closing - once you know that that's all it is tho, it's fine. Drying isn't great - but fine for my needs - you can't leave the dishes in too long for example as the condensation just makes them wet again. other than that I'm very happy with my purchase.

+ Very Quite

- Flimsy, dishwasher tablet cover

+ No complaints on the cleaning, can get a reasonable amount of crockery in it for a slimline diswasher.

- Bit noisier than the old Hotpoint we had , which we were quite surprised at as we had our old one for 15 years.
Quite tricky on first use, the salt warning light stays on for the first few washes which led us to think it wasn't working properly. Not mentioned in the instruction manual.

+ Not bad, as I am a Luddite who believes a slim line dish washer is the waste of good cupboard space. We previously had a Smeg, need I say more?

+ Choice of programs,easy to load and unload, reasonably quiet when in use, shows you where you have reached during the program cycle and allows you to interupt to change program or add/remove an item, can be delayed for up to 12 hours.

- Limited capacity is a drawback if your used to a full size machine.

+ Very easy to use and the dishes are all clean, and dry.

- WOULD LIKE AN END OF CYCLE BUTTON, AS I SOMETIMES OPEN THE DOOR THINKING IT IS FINISHED BUT HAS NOT ACTUALLY GONE THROUGH THE DRY CYCLE. Don't get me wrong there is no hot water spurting out etc. it is just when it goes to dry it pauses and I htink oh it has finished but it hasn't quite.

Wash cycle times

+ performance rating and other ratings AAA, excellently designed cutlery basket not fiddly at all. If you shop around you can get it at a good price. Easy to load, tells you when cycle finishes. Able to use overnight as quite enough to not disturb. ideal for a small family, cleans superbly.

+ Can vary the height of the top rack, easy to use, looks good, doesnt take too long to do a wash. Noise wise its fine too. Good price.

+ Very ease to use, tells you via LED lights, at what stage of the cycle the dishwasher is at. Very quiet.

- The only minor niggle is theat the lower rotor arm is quite high, so that it will hit any item or crockery which protudes throught the lower drainage rack i.e. saucers and small plates. It just means that they have to be placed in the upper rack.

+ Good looking and compact. Nasty cottage pie dish and saucepans come up a treat.Plates and cutlery are so clean and shiny. Easy to use, it's just press a button to move along and select and light up your preferred wash and away we go. It's just as powerful as a full size d/washer I had. Am really delighted with it.

- If I have to niggle it would be my plastic boxes occasionlly feel damp when I get them out - hardly a problem

- The top basket locks into the back of the unit and requires force to dislodge it. This causes the loaded dishes to crash about with a risk of breakage.

+ Were a family of four and it does all our dishes for a day. We had a full size of the same model prior to this one and it would take more load but it was only full after two days and you would regularly be waiting for things to get washed or have to remove them for hand washing. Buy what size you need for your everyday needs and save energy and money in the long run. Leaving dishes longer meant longer hotter more exoensive washes.

- When you have guests you end up washing the pots and pans as it has little room for these with additional plates etc.

- its a bit noisey, not as loud as a washing machine but not that far off it either. Can be hard to load it with saucepans etc, can understand why folding plate racks on the more expensive models are good now :o

- Bottom rack wires are too close together to get plates and cereal bowls in. It has meant that I've had to put
plates in every other rack.

- the only little problem i can find is that u have to have the door shut at all times

+ in general it is not bad,it does its purpose. But I would not say that I have been WOWED! by it. Quite unimpressive really. The best point would be the programme selection system, this is very easy and quick to use.

- The worst part is the stacking system for the dishes. it is quite restrictive and I have to spend a lot of time juggling and moving things around to get the best fit. For example you cannot place 2 dinner plates side by side as they overlap and dig into each other. Cups placed on the top rack do not drain away of water completely no matter where I try to place them. The top rack is moveable, but if you move it down the sprinkler arm bangs onto dinner plates as it goes around and if you leave it up you cannot get in tall glasses for example. very frustrating.

- Graphics printed on front are coming off even with gentle wiping/cleaning with a damp cloth. I can even wipe with a wet finger and it smudges. Apart from this - OK

It is a small dishwasher but with the same advantages of the larger dishwashers

- Cutlery tray is in the middle of the bottom rack which limits the amount of items which can be washed ie saucepans etc

- does not always get items clean even on intensive wash. Awkward to load some items without compromising the amount of settings eg: some dinner plates rquire adjustment of upper "tray" but this then prevents other items being loaded

+ Size is perfect for a family of four. For a compact dishwasher it is quite spacious and does not often need to be used more than once a day. It is a good looking machine with a wide variety of wash programmes to select from so can deal both heavy and lightly soiled dishes effectively. We are absolutely delighted with this product and would recommend it. Some people have said the lower tray is problematic but we have not found this. In fact I haven't really got a bad thing to say about it!

- While everything works ok , the one thing that really annoys me is the print wearing of on the control panel ,
i have had plenty of hotpoint products before including fridge , freezer and washing machine , this is the only one that has this problem.

+ It's quiet, reasonably quick, smart and has transformed the kitchen! I have worktops again! ;)

- Eco setting great for the environment, but it takes a very long time to complete the wash cycle.

+ You can fit quite a few dishes, pans etc into the machine even though it is a slimline.

+ It does what it says on the tin & fits where I needed it. Looks fine & does the job.

- Bottom drawer doesn't slide in & out like my old full size one (exactly the same but double the size), you have to help it in & help it out. If I'm trying to pull out the top drawer quickly just to put one more glass in & have opened the door just a bit, the drawer gets wedged perfectly on the fabric dispenser!. Had to take the extra levels out of the top shelf as couldn't get my glasses or mugs in. There's a very simple way of pulling the top drawer completely out of the machine, by flicking a couple of bits of plastic, but these sometimes decide to flick themselves & twice I've ended up holding the top drawer full of glasses & wondering what to do next!! Not really enough room to get a saucepan or cooking pot in the bottom drawer as well as a few plates, but that's purely half-size-dishwasher problem, not a design issue.
