Hotpoint FDW60 Reviews: Freestanding, 60cm wide, White Dishwasher

+ Overall product that matches functionality with price.

- Footprint of unit means that even though width and height are standard, the depth is larger than expected.

+ Quiet and easy to opperate.

- Does not clean small items, ie small jugs or cup, in the bottem section if they are near the corners (all4).

+ Cleans well and is quiet

- Resetting the programme is tricky and it often takes me several attempts to change the programme

+ The machine is easy to use and easy to understand, is almost silent and is very energy efficient.

- The upper shelf is badly designed with a fixed wine rack. This makes it hard to stack tall glasses in the washer, especially pint glasses.

- not very good for loading, especially glasses, mugs etc - have a tendency to fall over. Seems to be tailored for a specific dinner service size.

+ very quiete but although recommend use of all-in-one tablets, best results still require use of rinse aid. Layout for plates etc not as good as previous Hotpoint dishwasher-wastefull because of poor design. Still overall a good dishwasher.

- cutlery basket accessories are a bit over the top and fiddly to use. I just use the standard one

+ Easy to use, like the variety of programs and the way they are set out. Cutlery storage is beter than our last machine and the upper wash rack offers greater flexibility for placing glasses, small plates and large cutlery items.

- Bottom wash rack isn't as well thought out as it could be in regard to larger plates.

- The rubber seal on the sides tend to be rubbed by cutting boards when the door is opened and closed and this will upset the rubbers over time and may cause it to leak.

+ Does the job admirably with no fuss or gimmicks. Nice to look at, doddle to use. No fancy sensors, no fancy display, no hefty price tag. Highly recommended.

- The wash quality is not the best. Glass comes out quite stained even after following all instructions closly

+ Very quiet in comparison to previous dishwasher

- Rack for large spoons on the top basket is too low down and therefore restricts the use of the space underneath to small tumblers/glasses only. If it could be folded up better this would give better use of space.

- The cutlery basket is too big and will only fit in one place in the dishwasher which makes it difficult to fit large items around it. A lot of the slots in the cutlery basket are too small.
The two height settings for the top tray are either too high or too low.

- The bottom basket tips forward and bangs when you start filling it with plates. The soap dispenser is not designed for the size of the tablets. Glasses put into the top basket fall over if they are not jammed in. The whole feel of the machine is much cheaper than the previous model.

+ Overall I am happy with the product.

- What I dislike is the fact that the dishwasher does not dry the dishes thoroughly. My old dishwasher of some 17 years dried things much better than this one and for that reason I wouldn't recommend it.

+ I am always using the prewash feature so I don't need to rinse dishes before putting into the dishwasher. I mainly use the eco wah cycle and am very happy with the wash results.
It is very easy to use.

- It doesn't have a time till end of cycle feature (I think this may be included in the next version up). It has a half load function but this only washed the top shelf and you can't fit many plates on the top shelf so it's probably only good for washing loads of mugs/glasses.

+ quiet,design goes with my hotpoint under counter fridge and freezer the fz and rz range, salt refill and rinse aid indicator lights are a great way to remind me to keep appliance in good working order, cutlery basket with clip on cutlery compartment, it's good to be able to have a overwriter with programmes reset button that is what i mean.

- initial first few times of using appliance i noticed that condesation was being retained in top and upper part of appliance....did wonder at first if i'd done right purchasing this dishwasher the continuing flashing drying light is confusing at the end of the cycle, has with the salt refill light that kept flashing during first few uses, other then that it's getting used to using the machine and learning how it's programmes work.

+ Cheap, easy to install, fairly easy to use and good choice of programmes. Half-load and quick was are handy - start timer and slow economy wash good for overnight. I suspect its a good long-runner. Not too noisy. Energy consumption not bad at all.

- The rave reviews I read about it must have been from people owning worse machines before. It turns out that it really isn't as easy to load as some - especially for 'rice' bowls and large plates. This won't worry you if you have small plates and few bowls, otherwise space is wasted. Avoiding fouling the rotors with items sticking through gaps in basket is also an issue. The wash was good, but not quite as good as old machine even after practice loading. That said, would probably buy the same again as old Whirlpool no longer available. I've seen plenty worse.

- Economy cycle takes over twice as long as a normal cycle, may be more efficient in terms of the wash, but what about using twice as much electricity to run it? Thought initially it was fault when it took 2.5 hours!

- DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE TIGHTLY. DISHES NOT DRY. DIFFICULT TO PLACE ITEMS SO THAT THEY DRAIN PROPERLY. NEED TO USE SALT AND RINSE AID ASWELL AS TABLETS, NEVER DID WITH PREVIOUS MACHINE EVEN IN HARD WATER AREA. WILL NOT ACCOMMODATE PLATES, DISHES, CUTLERY AND PANS FROM A MEAL FOR 4 PEOPLE DUE TO THE LAYOUT OF RACKS.

+ does what it says - cleans things. all you have to do is prevent the filter from clogging horribly. it is nice as quiet too!

- if you lean on the thing with your bum you inadvertantly turn the power off. Otherwise, excellent.

- Feels cheap with poorly laid out interior. Not as good as my previous NEFF dishwasher but it was cheaper!
