It was this camera or the Olympus 12mp with a better optical zoom, but the Fuji looks and feels more solid than the plastic case of the Olympus. I first used it on holiday in Spain and had forgotten to take the instructions but it was so simple to use it wasn't a problem.

This Camera was bought as a gift for my daughter. It is small in size despite using AA batteries. Her only minor complaint is that the battery life is not as good as her previous camera that was charged by charger and had a slimline nicam battery. The plus of not having this type is that she can always have batteries ready to put into her camera if she is out and about and doesn't need to bother with a bulky charger when away from the house. Rechargeable batteries can be used if preferred. The camera is extremely easy to use.My daughter prefers the auto function but I have used the scene recognition setting and found that useful to. The camera was extremly good value for money and is very simple to use.I have to say I am a fuji fan and have had other cameras in the past but have always returned to fuji because of the simplicity in using them. Finally to sum up.....cheep, cheerful, good value and everything your student teenager would need for good clear snaps and for us parents that can't be bothered with anything too technical.

Easy to just point and shoot; large screen, 2800mAh batteries last over 300 shots with intensive use of flash and zoom; flash seems a bit more powerful than several other digital compacts I have used; a surprisingly good camera for such a cheap price.
-
Screen a little hard to see clearly in bright sunlight; no viewfinder; menu not entirely intuitive; main drawback for me is that the camera is not recognised as a removable drive by Windows XP - it needs the proprietary Fuji software to download images to PC which makes downloading unnecessarily complicated and slow, so I prefer to take the memory card out and use a card reader instead.

Most of the features can be found without laborious analysis of the manual. A cursory reading usually helps. I am comfortable with it , while still finding more features each time of use.
-
At the price,it is difficult, almost churlish, to find fault. The main thing , which applies to most compact digital cameras, is the lack of a viewfinder, making it difficult in sunlight.

Very slim and lightweight. Large screen on the back. Gives clear pictures. Has optical zoom and lots of features. Ours was very shiny and very pink!
-
Most features are menu-driven which means that it takes some time to switch from taking photos to taking a movie (in my canon camera there is just a disc that swivels round from one to the other). This can be a bit annoying.
The button that is used for navigating the menus is very small so it's easy to press on the wrong side of it and select the wrong thing in the menu (especially with big adult fingers!). Because it was the cheapest camera with optical zoom we could find we bought this for my 6 year old's birthday. However as most features are menu-driven and involve reading it is less intuitive than some other cameras and she needs quite alot of help using it (unlike mine which she can use easily). So, in conclusion this is an ideal camera for an older child, and very good value at the current sale price. But possibly not ideal for an adult with big fingers or younger children with limited reading skills.
