+ Ease of use - light, manageable, easy to steer

- A little tricky when using the tool attachments. It can be a little awkard to get the machine to stay in the upward position. If the wheels on the bottom are not locked properly the machine falls over.

+ Impressive design and performance. Does what it says it does. It is my first Dyson and wish I'd tried one sooner. Thus model suits my mix of hard and carpet floors perfectly. Plan to stick with Dyson now, very pleased with this model.

- More expensive than many other similar models but I think it's worth it.
When stretching out the hose you need to be quite fit and strong as the tension is quite powerful. However it stretches right to the top of my stairs.

+ It's lightweight and easy to manoevre, easy to empty,good suction power, hoovers underneath radiators right up to skirting without having to use tools.

- I think it is still a little bit pricey, hoovers should not be so expensive.

- It falls over, - what a useless design for a 'Dyson' My last hoover was a dyson and was pleased with it so decided to buy another, however, this model is most annoying when it keeps tipping over

- Having only used a conventional dyson before with 4 wheels it takes some getting used to the new ball system and to start with although the hoover is very light in weight it feels very heavy to use.

- I never feel I get the dust container properly clean. My previous Dyson 1, I was able to rinse out the container when it looked really dusty.
I empty it more frequent to my previous one...due to its reduced size..not so convenient

+ Its easy to use around the furniture, I like the fact that when switching to hard floors the button for it is near the top of the hoover. The hose is great as it reaches the top of the stairs no problem and is quite light to carry upstairs.

- The onboard tools, the small brush that clips on top of the small pipe attachment, whilst being stored, is difficult to get off and I ended up breaking it so I now have to hold it in place because to use the small brush it has to sit on this small pipe. Bear this in mind when taking it off! Also the instructions are not quite as easy to follow as there is quite a few clip actions you have to do when emptying the barrel and for me they were not quite clear enough. My husband got the jist of it!

- can be a pain lifting the hose up and down as its inside the handle. would be better if it was more like original dyson and just clipped off

- Would be an advantage to have a short lance capability.
Sometimes it doesn't click into the upright position when you have finished and hence falls over when you let go.
Can fairly easily be pulled over when using the lance.

+ Really pleased with my Dyson DC18 slimline..well designed..not too bulky or heavy..enough useful tools..performs well and looks great.

- Bag fills up quickly. A newer model (24) is coming out in March which is lighter, cheaper and has bigger drum. Extension hose feels awkard to use and doesn't go as far as the last one I had (no1). Can't use turbine brush attachments on this model.

- Doesn't always lock into upright position (minor design fault),
Sometiimes difficult to get the hand held wand from the base.

+ Extremely good cleaning and lighter than other models, ideal for smaller areas

- maybe I am not using it properly but miss being able to reach under beds with the extension providecd by a cylinder machine. perhaps an all floor attachment could be added to fit the hose extension.

+ Light weight - cleans right up to the edges - very easy to empty - when in the upright position cleaner is very easy to use.

- Dyson is very noisy - the pipe is too wide at the end for good suction and all of the tool attachment loose suction dramaticaly when in use. Self winding electric flex would be good feature.

- It doesn't pick up the pet hairs from my cat very well and it takes a while to get the hang of pushing it around, sometimes goes in the wrong direction. It can fall backwards very easily.

- The accessories , where do we put them when travlling up and down the house?? A hook and bag to carry them on the side would be good.

- Getting the vac tube deployed away from the main body requires unnecessary acts of long-arms manliness. The lack of a cable retractor is slightly annoying.
It's quite pricey for the main vac and the accessory prices are ridiculous.

+ we had the original dc 01 for years, it was excellent,when we changed, we did not here good things about the newer dysons and they were expensive.
we brought a hoover made by hoover, we had it a year and were very disappointed with it, so we took the plunge and brought the dc 18 all floors.scary price but instant satisfaction.serious bit of kit.easy to use and works like you would expect. looks like a good warranty too.

- Vacuum doesn't feel as solid as our old Dyson. Plastic feels much flimsier.

- The hose to do the stairs is very rigid and could do with more flexibility but I use my Dyson Animal hand held for that.
