Ubuntu version installed is slightly old and non-standard, so I reinstalled with the latest version from their website. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you know what you are doing.

Well designed package that competes well with the other netbooks on the market. Comes with driver disk and Ubuntu disk so you can install an alt OS if you want with no fear you won't be able to get the Mini-9 back to factory spec, but why would you wnant to put another OS on here, Ubuntu does everything you'd want a netbook to do and with none of the lag you get on these devices with XP.
-
Its discontinued so if you want one you have to pay the Windows tax.

This was a present for my parents, and they've been very impressed with it.
It's light, excellent battery life, great support from Dell (the battery was Dead On Arrival and Dell replaced it within 3 days), Ubuntu looks great and is very easy to use (it just worked with all the things we've tried with it).
I bought 3 of these machines within a month, two as presents, and the recipients are delighted with them.

I bought this originally for traveling, but it is so quick to start up I often use it instead of my desktop PC. As it uses a solid state drive, and has no fans, it is also completely silent. The battery life is great, and the charger is really small (like a mobile phone charger). It doesn't get very hot in use, and I have been able to play full screen video without any problems. The Dell additions to the Ubuntu environment are unobtrusive, and actually quite useful (though you can turn them off very easily if you wish) and don't prevent you from using the full power of Ubuntu.
