+ Simple intuitive operation.
Great performance under good/bright lighting conditions.
Great battery life.
Solid build.
Excellent balance between stills and movie camera.

- A little heavy.
Very high speed movies need so much light that indoor effectiveness is reduced considerably.
Auto focus struggles on occasion.
Sluggish zoom.

+ Unique in its field. A decent camera for the point-and-shoot market, and an amazing variety of extras to have fun with. It has made me seriously reconsider my previous DSLR preference.

- Takes a while getting used to the controls and menus, but this is to be expected given its diverse capabilities.

+ I got this for animation reference - high speed and/or high def footage, and it's great for that. Does good closeups of insects, water etc. It's easy to switch between taking a photo, taking high speed footage and taking hd or standard res footage, and playing back so you don't have to mentally switch modes all the time. Can be computer controlled using software and firmware upgrade downloaded from casio website (have not tried this yet).

- Big camera. Lacks easy manual controls, so if you want to shoot something that is not preset or works with the automatic settings then it may take a long time to set up. It's a large camera, maybe without proper manual control it ought to be smaller. I got this model as opposed to the other exilim models because I wanted to get the best quality images possible, maybe the smaller F20 would have been better suited to my needs - but I'm very happy with the F1 nevertheless.

Expert reviews for Casio EXILIM Pro EX-F1

TechRadar expert review

Missing high-speed action shots, be they of sports, wildlife or pets, is one of the most perplexing aspects of photography. But there's no longer any excuse for blinking and missing it with the arrival of the Casio Exilim EX-F1, officially the fastest compact camera in the world. The appropriately named F1 can fire off an astonishing 60 full- resolution frames per second, which makes the human eye look rubbish in comparison. It can also shoot HD-quality video ‚Äì 1,920x1,080 pixel quality at 60 fields per second.Impressive lens The Exilim EX-F1's only been out since early summer but…
