+ -Has got Full HD Video recording with one press record button
-Has a 4fps (frames per second) burst mode
-Nice flip and rotate LCD screen
-20x Zoom optical lense with extra boost Zoom when in Video mode
-Lots of preset modes for different sceans
-Can customise the cameras modes too suit your style
-Good accurate colour balance sensors and light detection sensors

- -Quite heavy than expected
-Needs a lot of light or will produce lots of noise in low light
-Consumes a lot of power so carry a lot of batteries if you intend too shoot lots of video and images (buy 2800 mah batteries- rechargables recommended) for long lasting video shooting and image shooting
-Would of liked a external microphone like on the panasonic GH1 HD
-Also would of liked more devices too be able too connect too the camera like light gun for night shooting

+ Great all rounder - excellent pics with 20x optical zoom and HD movies. Multiple pre-set settings for various shooting conditions.

- Some buttons are awkard to use and a number of features are not easily accessible but need the push of multiple buttons several times to select the required setting.

+ wanted a camera that would be a compact but also give me quality pictures like a SLR. This camera does it all :)... Don't get me wrong it's not a Nikon D90 or a Canon EOS 50D, but saying that the functions are well balanced and take's great photo's.. Now I have had one, wouldn't swap it for a D90 or a 50D... Maybe a Canon 7D or 5D Mark2.... /dream

- You need decent batteries for this one. I got some 2500's and they are doing me well.. normal 600's got chewed within a couple of hours..

+ The zoom lens - Impressive

- A lot of function buttons around the 'hand-grab' area. Even experienced DSLR users found it difficult to pick the camera up without pressing at least two buttons, altering some setting or function, while it is switched ON.

+ Unique feature set, fantastic zoom range, handles almost like a SLR,. Excellent ergonomics, fast processor, good looks (similar to Canon EOS cameras), decent build quality. A true hybrid device (camcorder/photo camera).

- Some noise at high ISO, but fine until 200. No manual settings in video mode. Lens could be a tad brighter at middle and long focal length.

+ HDMI is fantastic.

- I am a bit concerned about the picture quality but have not had enough time to experiment with the different modes and features, so could be my lack of knowledge in using it properly.

The supercharged super zoom.

Super zoom
The powerful 20x wide-angle (28mm, f/2.8) optical zoom provides outstanding reach and composition flexibility. With Ultrasonic Motor (USM) and Voice Coil Motor (VCM), zooming is fast, accurate and near-silent, while Canon’s renowned optical Image Stabilizer technology counteracts camera shake.

Canon CMOS sensor
The PowerShot SX1 IS is the first Canon compact camera to incorporate a Canon CMOS sensor, which allows high resolution shooting in exceptionally rapid bursts. The sensor boasts 10 Megapixels for capturing the finest detail, allowing creative cropping and superb large-scale prints.

HD movies in stereo
Create smooth, high quality movies in full high definition (1080, 30p), then use HDMI connectivity for playback on HD widescreen TVs – complete with CD quality stereo sound.

DIGIC 4
Incorporating the latest in image processing technology, DIGIC 4 delivers extraordinary noise reduction. The result is richly detailed, cleaner images, even when shooting at high ISO speeds. DIGIC 4 also drives exceptional processing speeds and responsive operation.

Miss nothing
With the Canon CMOS sensor, extra fast continuous shooting speeds (up to 4fps) at full resolution are achieved. Servo AF tracks moving subjects to ensure they remain in focus.

Face Detection Technology
Great people shots are assured with the latest Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB – even faces at angles and far away. Face Select & Track optimises settings for a chosen person, while FaceSelf-Timer waits for you to enter the frame for great self-portraits or group photos.

Eliminate blur
The PowerShot SX1 IS combats potential blur with High ISO Auto and Motion Detection Technology, which ascertains movement of both camera and subject to set the optimum ISO, whatever the shooting situation. Servo AF tracks moving subjects to ensure they remain in focus.

Optimum contrast
Working in both shooting and playback, i-Contrast boosts brightness in dark areas. The result is improved contrast with detail retained in tricky lighting conditions.

Large LCD
The 2.8" widescreen vari-angle LCD enables framing from challenging angles and easy sharing of images in playback. Night Display mode enhances screen visibility in low light.

Flash compatible
For extended shooting options and better light coverage, the comprehensive accessory system includes compatibility with Canon EX Speedlite flash range.
