i simply love the camera because its easy to use and its an all in one there are no lenses to change except the addition of the wide angle converter. i don't necessarily have to muck about conecting to a computer to print of my images. its easy to go direct to a printer and use the editing suite on the camera and the prints are realy good
i just love it thank you canon for coming up with a terific little camera
it has replaced my canon A1 which i've had for years and loved that too. roger

Score 8.0/10+ The main advantage to this camera is its fantastic rotating lcd screen which comes in very handy especially when shooting over other people. 8 mega pixels is plenty to get great detail even with larger prints, and the optical zoom is decent. The movie mode also allows pictures to be taken in the middle of recording, and you can use the zoom for the movies as well so this feature is impressive [for a digital camera]. The two colour scenes (colour swap and colour accent), which are exclusive to Canon, allow great creative shots, whereby you can highlight one single colour to be highlighted in your photo, with the rest taken in black and white, so overall, this camera is absolutely great.
-
Zoom could be a bit greater.
No rechargeable batteries included, so be prepared to buy some
You're likely to need to buy a large size memory card to take advantage of the movie mode and take pictures at full quality.

Score 9.0/10+ I'm still getting to grips with the camera. I came from a very basic point and shoot so it naturally seems very complicated but I'm sure in time it will seem simple and logical to use. I am very impressed with the features on the camera, the photo stitch and the clever colour swapping and accents are excellent. You can video and take photos simultaneously. It's possible to add sound clips to photos which I'm sure is useful if your memory is not too good. Stereo sound. Monitor flips out which is very useful. Uses AA batteries
- When in the auto mode the flash does not appear to pop up automatically. Optical zoom is just 8x compared to many similar cameras that have 12 or 18, maybe its replacement will be higher.

Expert reviews for Canon Powershot S5 IS
PC Advisor expert review
The sturdily built Canon PowerShot S5 IS is what is commonly known as a 'bridge' camera ヨ so called because it forms a bridge between a point-and-shoot compact and a digital SLR.

TechRadar expert review
When is an SLR not an SLR? When it's a Canon S5. The S5 certainly looks like one with its large lens, chunky handgrip, hotshoe for external flash and enough switches and dials to start a science experiment. The S5 is a little smaller than an SLR, you can't change the lens and there's no through-the-lens optical viewfinder. Instead, you get a fixed 12x zoom lens, an electronic viewfinder and no option for shooting RAW files. What you do get is one hell of a compact camera. The S5 replaces the S3 (there wasn't an S4) and uses the same 36-432mm zoom lens. The S5 has sharper corners than…
