Score 9.0/10+ The G10 is extremely versatile for a compact and has many features found on more expensive, larger DSLR's. As a hill walker, I was attracted to the reported image quality, raw recording and the size/weight compared to a DSLR and have been delighted by the results.
-
Pricey for a compact, but you do get what you pay for.
The multitude of features and recording options may be daunting to the novice, however, to buy this camera and only use it in “point and shoot” mode would be a crime.

Excellent IQ at low ISO (and, after reading several reviews, better than expected at higher ISOs)
Very easy to use
Built like a tank
-
No HD vid
Could have done with a slightly longer zoom
A flip-screen like previous G series cameras would have been good too

Score 8.0/10+ Excellent build quality. Good access to most used controls. Good quality images (for a compact)
- Perhaps too many features to get your head around. Bulkier than most compact cameras.

Bought the camera for my son, who is a third year student at university working towards his final project in graphic design, states he wished he could have had the opportunity to purchase it sooner. 'Its brilliant'!!
- A bit heavy, otherwise can not fault it at all.

Score 10.0/10+ Having the option to change aperture and shutter speed settings is a real bonus, just like my old SLR used to be. The LCD viewfinder is brilliant, and the results are first class. The camera is solid and it feels like a "real" camera - yet it is still compact. It has so many features which makes the G10 the perfect camera for me and it is excellent value for money. I have spoken to a couple of professional photographers who use the G10 rather than a bulky SLR.
- You need a spare battery as once it runs down, there's hardly any warning - it just dies!

Score 9.0/10+ Canon have produced a really great little camera, for those that are used to a really small camera i.e. a cheap point and shoot the size of a cigarette box this might seem a little bulky. However when you realize what it is capable of the size wont matter. This camera is ideal for traveling, you get all the advantages of DSLR with full manual mode you can play around with the shutter speed, aperture, exposure, and ISO. I plan to take this camera round the world with me, its perfect for keeping in your pocket and wiping it out to snap something spontaneous and with a start up time of just over a second your sure not to miss anything. It also has 2 custom modes for those quick shots. Using the auto mode makes the image look a bit lifeless, so really take some time to learn how to use it.
- The shutter only stays open for 15 seconds, which is a shame, but wont effect my life too heavily. You will still be able to create those really eire night shoots.

Score 9.0/10+ Pleasing retro viewfinder "feel", exposure compensation dial, long battery life with the screen off, good image quality for a compact, RAW capability,

Score 9.0/10+ Solid 'classic' construction, lens, signal processing and image qulity
- None that I can see - you do need to see the instructional DVD to work out how to run some of the more sophisticated modes. But this is hardly a criticism

TechRadar expert review
We reviewed the PowerShot G9, this camera's predecessor, last year. The Canon PowerShot G10, then, has been over a year in the pipeline and yet on the face of it, the new camera isn't so very different from the old one. But there are some significant differences. The one that's likely to grab the most headlines is the G10's increase in resolution, offering a 14.7 megapixel sensor where the G9 had 12 megapixels. Actually, though, that's probably the least important difference. Numerically, it's not very much at all and, besides, pixel densities this high bring serious noise (and noise r…

Pocket Lint expert review
The PowerShot G10 steps up to the enthusiast end of digital camera plate with more than just a few tweaks over its predecessor, the popular PowerShot G9. As you might expect, the G10 is the recipient of a new, higher resolution sensor, with a 14.7 million pixels on a 1/1.7-inch CCD.The new camera is designed as a professional snapper’s back-up or for enthusiasts requiring DSLR features and usability within a more compact package...

14.7 Megapixels
A 14.7 Megapixel sensor provides rich detail for large-scale prints and creative cropping, while allowing you to make the most of the camera’s Safety Zoom and Digital Tele-Converter functions.
Quality 5x wide-angle lens
Capture more in your frame with a compact, high quality 5x wide-angle (28mm, f/2.8) lens. Canon’s optical Image Stabilizer technology counteracts the effects of camera shake, for crisp, blur-free images throughout the zoom range.
RAW recording
RAW shooting gives complete control over all image parameters in post-shoot editing. Support for Canon’s Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software allows Digital SLR users to integrate the PowerShot G10 into their workflow.
DIGIC 4
The latest in image processing technology, DIGIC 4 delivers extraordinary noise reduction. The result is richly detailed, cleaner images, even at high ISO speeds. DIGIC 4 also drives exceptional processing speeds and responsive operation.
Anti-blur
The PowerShot G10 combats blur with High ISO Auto and Motion Detection Technology, which ascertains movement of both camera and subject to set the optimum ISO, whatever the shooting situation. Servo AF tracks moving subjects to ensure they remain in focus.
Face Detection Technology
For easy, spontaneous portraiture the PowerShot G10 uses Canon’s Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB. Face Select & Track optimises settings for a chosen person, while FaceSelf-Timer is ideal for self-portraits or group photos.
3.0" PureColor LCD II
The 3.0" PureColor LCD II has outstanding resolution (460K dots) for exceptional detail during framing or playback – while an optical viewfinder offers extra framing choice.
Convenient dials
Dedicated Exposure Compensation and ISO dials provide convenient adjustment of exposure and ISO without the need to access menus. A Multi Control Dial provides fast, accurate access to menu items, functions and images.
i-Contrast
i-Contrast analyses a scene during shooting or playback, then boosts brightness in dark areas. The result is improved contrast with detail retained in tricky lighting conditions.
Shooting modes
26 modes, including numerous automatic modes, make shooting in tricky situations easier. The PowerShot G10 also offers full manual mode, for total creative control.
Accessories range
A comprehensive accessory system includes a tele-converter, waterproof case and compatibility with Canon’s full range of Speedlite flashes.
