Score 9.0/10+ Small and light. Fits in a handbag (it even fits in a baked bean tin if you wanted it to!) and no more arm ache holding it up. SDHC cards are tiny, so no need to carry bulky tapes or dvds. Picture quality really good even on a large TV. We have had it a month and only charged it once so far - and it tells you how much battery time you have left. No motors, so no noise and the battery lasts for ages.
- You can't take photos in the middle of a video, but I'm not sure if I'd ever want to.

Great camera. Fantastic quality, easy and quick to use. Battery life excellent.
Contrary to Canon's technical support team, it IS compatible with Mac OSX if you splash out and spend a tiny amount on a piece of video format translation shareware.
-
Canon technical support offers poor advice.
Not plug and play with a Mac but if you are even slightly technically minded you can overcome the problems.

Score 10.0/10+ Light, small, looong battery life, and I can fit 2 hours of dvd comaptible footage on a 8gb SD card. With DV tapes it would take 2 hours to get the footage on to the PC, now it takes a few minutes.
- Can't think of a fault for the price and features. I guess it could be improved by having 0 lux night vision, but I rarely need that it's hardly relevant.

Score 10.0/10+ Prodcues excellent results when used outdoors, superb battery life (2.5 Hrs Recording time, 5 Hrs Playback time), very simple to use with the press of the 'easy' button. Digital Zoom is one of the best I have seen on any camcorder. Normally I would not even contemplate using DZ but for far away shots, it is very useable.
- Indoor movies are quite grainy in low light conditions. If you need to take still photos as well, make sure you have brought a good quality still camera along with you as this camcorder takes very poor still shots under any conditions.

- The Cannon FS 100 does not come with an SD memory card, and this was not pointed out in the advertising for the video, so when it arrives, you can not use it. !!!

Score 10.0/10+ Long battery life, small, lightweight and very easy to use. Superb optical zoom and great video quality.
- Video quality can suffer at greater zoom and non-sunny conditions.

Score 10.0/10+ Brilliant optics (quality and zoom) and the camera looks great. Usual high standard build quality as you'd expect from Canon. The camera is tiny, a good thing in my opinion, but not fiddly to use and all the controls are logically placed. Battery life is adequate, though its always a compromise with size and weight, so I would say it is acceptable, a second battery is a must really. All in all, a great little camera with a high performance and image standard, for a great price.
- Low light performance not outstanding but usable. No memory card with the camera, but try haggling with the retailer. No other bad points.

Alan, Margate , “first time camcorder user”
Score 8.0/10+ Compact. Lightweight, quite easy to use. Once you manage to assemble and record a video on the computer the results are excellent especially played on a tv in wide screen.
- Not easy getting to the menu lists. If playing back a recorded shot on the camera it is difficult to return to the image menu. Assembling a video film on the computer with the supplied program takes ages to save and uses masses of memory

Score 10.0/10+ Really easy to use and fits neatly into your hand. Has been great for shooting videos even bommy night
- Still photos would be better on a digital camera owing to low megapixels - but hey it is a video camera not a digital camera - and a digital camera cant shoot videos!

Really light and easy to use, excellent picture quality and downloads to PC really quickly.
I am so glad we went for this one, I can't believe how compact it is compared to our old one.
Will easily fit into a handbag if required.

Score 8.0/10+ Small and easy to use with a great battery life. Take it anywhere, aim and shoot. Outdoor picture quality is good but, 45x zoom is only good with a steady hand.
- Struggles with low light which can be a bit disheartening when filming indoors.

Score 10.0/10+ Small, lightweight, easily carried. Sharp images. Great magnification for far away shots. Extremely easy to use, even for someone who had never used a camcorder before. Love the ability to view results on computer or television screen - also very easy to master this process.

Expert reviews for Canon FS100
TechRadar expert review
Canon has gone for the cheap and cheerful approach with its FS100, which is a standard-deÔ¨Ånition camcorder. It's also the cheapest in the range and lacks internal memory, forcing you to shoot straight to SD card. The look and feel is solid yet lightweight, although the silver paint looks poor.Basic spec Despite that, Canon has designed the FS100 sensibly with the battery and SD card under a hatch on the bottom, so you can get to them in an instant. The hatch is rather Ô¨Çimsy, though. The controls are divided between the body of the camcorder and the lower edge of the 2.7-inch LCD sc…
