+ Large number of features give excellent versatility. Image stabilisation is excellent.

- Chromatic aberration is excessive in my opinion but can be easily removed from raw files in supplied software

+ Very easy to start using a soon as you open the box - with a little background reading and research the more dvanced settings are easy to apply and achieve great photos in all conditions and lights. Photo quality is excellent with actual size allowing photos to be blown up or zoomed and rerun quality. This was my first digital SLR and I'm looking forward to learning even more about photography with this camera. t

- Changing settings quickly is near impossible if the auto settings are failing to give you the photo you wanted - so if your object is moving or easily disturbed this can be a problem. The lens supplied can be quite limiting but there is a good selection of affordable lenses which the camera performs extremly well with.

+ I really love this camera as the first SLR camera for anyone. Its picture quality is greate and even my mom can take pictures in Auto mode since it is that simple. The LCD display is good size and there are menu options to check the picture quality promtly. However I have to say that there is lot more for me to learn about this camera. I'm not an expert yet, but I want to be soon.

- It would have been far better if the video capturing is possible with this as it is with EOS 500D. I realize this only after I placed my order. Bit of a reckless research on selecting the camera.

+ NB. This is graded from the point of view of a complete novice in the DSLR world. Having said that, it appears to be good for a DSLR beginner and is at a reasonable price. The instruction manual is easy to follow and I was able to start using the non pre-set functions pretty quickly and to good effect.

+ Easy to use from the moment you open the box. Automatic feature will always guarantee stunning pictures. On-screen display is self -explanatory with crucial parametres always highlighted/blinking. The manual instruction provided is surprisingly easy to understand and gives you a good start to play around with the camera. The lens AF70-300mm provided within the begginer pack is excellent.

- Some functions might sound difficult for novices (like me), but after buying a DVD (on a famous auction website) designed to give you lessons and examples of the various capabilities of the Canon EOS450D, all the major functions are easy to operate.

TechRadar expert review

Canon's EOS 400D has been instrumental in driving the budget SLR market. Now the Japanese giant has released an upgrade to the 400D, the 450D. The main changes are two million more pixels, a new, easier-to-handle chassis and Live View, which shows what the camera is 'seeing' on the rear LCD.12 megapixel cameraCertainly, having two million extra pixels to play with is helpful, if hardly earth shattering. Canon's 12-megapixel sensor does a good job of keeping noise down and image quality high, and that extra capacity means you can enlarge your pictures, or crop them aggressively in…

Manufacturer's Description

The EOS 450D blends uncompromising performance with ease of use in a lightweight, ergonomic body. Capture your world with a 12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor and the very latest Canon technologies.

Features

* 12.2 MP CMOS sensor * 3.5fps * 9-point wide-area AF * EOS Integrated Cleaning System * 3.0” LCD with Live View mode * DIGIC III processor * Large, bright viewfinder * Total image control * Compact and lightweight * Compatible with EF/EF-S lenses and EX Speedlites

Let’s play.

12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor
The 12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor gives you plenty of detail for poster-size prints and extra flexibility when cropping. Sensitive in low light and virtually noise-free, Canon’s CMOS sensors are also remarkably power-efficient.

3.5 fps shooting
The EOS 450D captures up to 3.5 frames per second for a continuous burst of up to 53 large JPEG images (6 in RAW).

9-point wide-area AF

The 9 AF points are spread out across the frame to better accommodate off-centre subjects. The central AF point is a high sensitivity cross type sensor for quick, accurate focusing with f/2.8 and faster lenses.

EOS Integrated Cleaning System

Canon’s built-in dust prevention system uses three methods to keep images blemish-free. (1) Specialised materials reduce dust generation within the camera. (2) A Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit shakes dust from the sensor each time the camera is turned on or off. (3) Stubborn dust spots are mapped for easy removal in Digital Photo Professional.

3.0” LCD with Live View mode

The bright 3.0” LCD provides sharp definition for checking focus and composition, with 10x magnification for finer details. When shooting from awkward positions, Live View mode gives you the option of framing the image from the LCD, and a choice of focussing modes.

DIGIC III processor

Renowned for its white balance accuracy, DIGIC III renders colours with brilliant, true-to-life precision. Captured images are processed in 14-bit colour depth for finer tonal gradations. DIGIC III works efficiently to minimise power consumption while maintaining ultra-fast response times.

Large, bright viewfinder

A large viewfinder gives a bright and clear view for easy composition of the scene.

Total image control

Gain easy control over image processing parameters with Picture Style presets. Contrast, sharpness and saturation can be customized in-camera or through the supplied Picture Style Editor software. After the shoot, Canon’s RAW processing software Digital Photo Professional provides everything you need to manage and process your RAW images.

Compact and lightweight

Ergonomically designed for natural and intuitive handling, the EOS 450 is housed in a compact body that weighs in at just 475 grams.

EF lenses and accessories

The EOS 450D is compatible with over 60 EF/EF-S lenses and all EX Series Speedlite flash units.
