this camera is outstanding, lightweight and versatile. I found it simple and intuitive to use. Its wide range of features will suit a range of skill levels from "point and shoot" right up to a skilled amateur. The battery life is also worth noting, i'm just back from a two week trekking holiday i took around 800 shots and used only a third of the power.

I've had this camera for several months and so far i cannot fault it.

In Auto mode, just turn it on, point and shoot - it does auto focus and pop up flash if required
Battery excellent.
Camera USB connection worked first time each time I have connected camera to computer (Windows /XP), with previous cameras i gave up trying to get it to work and just took the memory card out of the camera and put it in a USB connected reader (which also didn't always work).
Camera is lightweight but has a good look and feel.
-
I was taking pictures of the Red Arrows at Farnborough, I used manual mode and the 70 -300mm Tamron lens, framing the picture means working fast and moving from rotating the barrel on the lens to pressing the shutter. Sometimes I found it difficult to hit the shutter button as it is quite a way forward on the camera and i have reasonably long fingers. Using the left hand to turn the barrel you have to hold the camera with the right hand, you then have to use a finger on the right hand to press the shutter which may require readjusting you right hand grip on the camera. Just a small point and maybe when I have used the camera more I will naturally find a way of solving this problem.
Had to read the manual quite thoroughly to understand how to play back pictures, not quite as simple as on some other cameras where I have had a thumbwheel to move from one picture to the next. (thats why it gets 9 instead of 10 for ease of use).

This camera does everything it claims to do, great for the novice and those looking for something more advanced alike. Great image quality with rich colors, and the bundle here with the additional lens is great, although it is curious as to why it is not a Canon 300mm lens that is included, the Tamron does the job.
Fantastic camera all round, and nice to see a Canon SLR using the SD card format.

The Canon EOS 450D is packed with features, like a 3inch screen, live view mode, over 12 million megapixels giving beautiful clear picture results etc, it has many of the features of a much more expensive professional camera but it's body is less robust. It is powerful enough to take the most demanding of shots yet light enough to be carried virtually anywhere, which is a plus point if you have a family of young children and carrying all of their essentials as well. This is my second Canon EOS and in my opinion it makes an excellent mid range DSLR choice.

The image quality with the (new) kit lens is quite acceptable, in fact much better than I expected and seems to be capable of resolving the extra pixels. The IS works very well enabling hand held low light shots to be taken (e.g. inside churches) without pushing the ISO too much. Very impressed with the sensor, good dynamic range and low noise at ISO 800 (which makes it very usable if necessary). I find the camera handles well, together with being fairly light and (relatively) compact.
-
The only bad point with the kit I bought is the Tamron 70-300 zoom that came bundled with it. Even if you stop the lens down the image at 300mm is not very sharp plus in many lighting situations there is a lot of purple fringing. OK this is a cheap lens but I was hoping for results that were at least usable. I guess I need to save up for a 'proper' long telephoto.

The Tamron zoon lens is far better than the Canon offered by the same price (I have tested both). The 4 Gigabyte memory card is more than enough for beginners and the camera features and potential is superb. When testing against Sony Alfa 14 megapixels, there is no difference at all in the quality results.
-
I have no serious problems; I think it is a very good value for money. Some problems when managing white balance and exposure, the camera sometimes can’t get it right 1st time , but this is compensated by the large amount of options available and good use of them.

Easy to use and good pictures.
Lots of features from full Auto to creative manual.
Lens is quick and lightweight, camera body light and small.
Menus pretty simple, buttons laid out without fuss.
Large screen at rear, viewfinder bright and large (although I am used to a bigger SLR one)
-
Small camera bodies can be a disadvantage if you have large hands. I looked at Nikon D80 which felt much heavier and larger in the hand which gave it a feel of quality.

With todays entry level cameras been far superior to that of top model cameras of 5 years ago then you will get exelent results whatever camera you buy, that said theres nothing wrong with getting the most for your money,
As I am writing this (Dec2008) The canon 450D just stood taller than the compertition in this price/model range.
An exelent camera if your stepping into the world of DSLR and want a bit more than the entry level cameras have to offer. Highly recomended

Nice camera, fairly easy to get the hang of and produces really nice pictures. Overal very pleased.

I've not yet found much use for the Tamron lens, possibly due to my lack of experience or knowledge. As someone new to SLR cameras I would just go with the standard lens if I was choosing again.
