The image stabilistaion (IS) is an excellent function for hand held shots. the image clarity is not perfect but € for € you.re nor going to get any better for twice the price.
Having the experience of it and knowing what i know now about it, Would I buy it again YES ! Without a doubt.
-
Plastic mount is a little cheap. if you change the focal length you have to refocus. All minor details in the bigger picture.

This lens has hardly been off my camera since I bought it! It produces excellent pictures, even at slower shutter speeds, hand-held, thanks to the image stabilisation. I've used it alot recently at music festivals, on 1600 ISO, without flash, and have been very pleased with the results. It's also good for portraits.

IS is amazing - the lens just stops moving. Its great to be able to focus in on things I couldn't before. Its not particularly bulky or heavy so I can easily carry it around with other equipment.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens IS is a good choice for amateurs. reasonable price. light weight and compact size. best zoom lens around for a cheap budget if you own as EOS camera.
-
The focus ring is not the smoothest available. The zoom ring is reasonably smooth (but stiff) All-plastic construction, which is less durable than metal; sharpness falls off at 250mm where it is likely to see a lot of use.

Price, effective IS, light-weight, very good image quality (for the price) & macro capability. I sold my Canon 70-200mm 2.8 to get this - really. Not as mad as you think; the 70-200mm was too heavy - and too cumbersome. The 55-250mm goes everywhere with me - and that's what I wanted.
