- Good points:
- Very easy to set up and will print from both PC and Mac with ease, either wired or wireless.
- Bad points:
- Haven't found any yet but one suspects the cost of replacemet ink cartridges, when the time comes, will not be low.

I've never filled in an online review before, but I'm making an exception because this printer is so good and it deserves some praise.
I find it hard to fault this printer. I spent a lot of time choosing it and as far as I know (taking into account the cashback offer from the manufacturer) it is not possible to get another printer/scanner/copier/fax that is full duplex print AND full duplex scan capable for less.
It's sturdy, looks good and does everything I want it to. It's wireless enabled so I can use it from any computer in this house and put it anywhere I like without wiring.
Awesome.
I have read some negative reviews that say it is difficult to set-up. Not so. The full software suite was a doddle. Put the DVD in and let it do it's thing (Windows 7). On other computers for which I didn't really need all the extras I just did an add network printer from Windows and it found it and set it up automatically, installing all the drivers etc. without any input from me.
The wireless network connection was also straightforward. If you know enough to connect a computer to your wireless you can connect this. Menu->LAN->Wireless->Search for wireless networks->wireless found->enter passcode->done. Those complainants on this front must be utterly clueless. Don't listen to them, there's nothing wrong with the printer - it's them!
I have read further negative reviews about the speed of scanning and printing. Again don't listen to them. Yes it will take quite a long time to print a single document - laser printers do, they have to warm up - but try printing a hundred copies and it will charge through at a very acceptable rate given the price. If the single page time bothers you, buy an ink-jet. Even a full-size commercial office laser printer costing thousands goes through a warm-up cycle.
Same with scanning. Perhaps those people complaining are scanning 32bit colour - max resolution. Scan in black and white at 300 dpi and it races through. Again, even if you spend thousands on a scanner it will drop it's rated speed massively if you scan high-res and colour (I know this because I work in the commercial scanning industry). Full colour, top res is typically only required for one-offs anyway, so drop it, scan like the wind, save filling your hard-drive up, and feel smug that you've got the option if on occasion you want to photo-edit something from the family album.
I've heard complaints of washed-out colour. It's true the colour will be a little washed out... unless you go into print properties and select enhanced (more ink) rather than economy colour, which produces great results.
I've heard complaints that it is heavy. This is a fact, but it's a lot of kit so have a friend over to help you lift into position and don't plan on moving it again. I carried it upstairs to my office on my own and regretted it - like lugging 3 bags of cement but a lot more awkward. I must admit, I expected it to look a lot bigger dimension-wise given the specified weight. I can only conclude it's internals are forged of steel - which suits me down to the ground as I was looking to buy a printer for life.
Haven't tried the Fax as I haven't got round to laying a telephone cable to it - so no comment here. It's got all the buttons and more, I'm sure it will be fine.
Value for money - solid without cashback... with cashback from the manufacturer on top... unbeatable. I know that offer is due to expire at some point - end of December 2010??? - so check first if that matters to you. - Bad points:

The clock battery runs out quickly, in a couple of days maybe if it's not kept powered on - and it needs to be reset if you want your print-outs timestamped correctly. There may be a way of sorting this, like sticking a battery in, or connecting a time-server - I haven't looked into it.
Hard but not impossible to fault. In fairness, despite my obvious love for this printer, the clock thing is really annoying :-).

I never give 10 in anything in a review so bear that in mind. Easy to install and use. Works well with Windows 7 (64 bit) & XP (32 bit). Good quality output and the duplex aspect is well worth while especially as it is also on the scanner as well as the printer elements. The fact that duplex is also on the fax is a bonus but not necessarily essential.
The bad points outlined below are overall outweighed by the good points so overall I say "Yes". - Bad points:
- The individual sheet feeder is very heavy handed and quite often I found 2 sheets go through at same time especially if any humidity invades the paper. The sheet feeder could do with being more sensitive as it is with some other Brother MFCs i.e. MFC-440CN which I also have and use regularly. However it is probable that most MFCs have some glitch and this one is liveable with. This problem also occurs on the mass paper storage box and does cause a lot of paper feed problems. It is necessary to really fan the paper before loading (more than on some other MFCs).
