Brother MFC-465CN Reviews: Brother All-in-one Colour Inkjet Printer

+ This is the second MFC i have owned. The first gave me faithful service....... until it was printernapped by grandson.

+ Excellent all round machine, good quality prints of photographs on copy paper. I have yet to prduce any prints on photo quality paper. Very quick machine and results speak for themselves. Cannot fault, easy to installa nd easy to use.

- POWER SWITCH COULD HAVE BEEN BIGGER

+ Easy to use and does all it's functions also uses less expensive ink than all the other makes

- can only scan to email one sheet per e-mail. Could be easier to put paper in when doing double sided printing

+ Cannot fault this printer so far it has been fantastic. The printer itself is compact and doesn't take up too much space and The print quality is excellent.

- Not very easy to print different sizes of paper. Photos are fine but I have only figured out how to print different sizes on an A4 sheet

+ Nice printer with built in fax, suitable for compatible cartridges. Great quality photo prints.

- Tends to jam when printing a number of pictures on photo paper.

+ Good size, not too large for an all-in-one. Print quality fair to good. Nice to be able to load 6 x 4 photo paper in same tray as A4 printer paper.

- Fairly slow at printing. Still struggling to work out how to get phone to answer on auto without fax cutting in - so using on manual.

- does not feed paper particularly well, continuosly having to take paper tray out to 'reload' when all it needs is a tilt of the tray and it is apparently 'reloaded.
print quality on photo's is excellent, text is inferior to my former machine (Epson all-in-one).

+ Very cheap compatible cartridges, good build quality, compact and looks good.

+ intuitive User interface, easy scanning

- Paper handling could be better, double sided pronting would be such a bonus as i do a lot of reviewing and it would help me keep paper usage down and lighten my brief case.

+ Easy to set up and install. No fuss easy to use too.(not used fax yet but all other features.

- minor really but have had 2 paper jams, possibly due to different paper. one easy to clear, second not so - had to switch off and remove bits of paper with wife's tweezers!

+ Installation was easy and worked first time, both on my old XP laptop and a windows 7 beta machine. Though I haven't had to replace the cartridges yet, the prices for these seem very reasonable.

- 1. on draft or fast normal mode, the print is a little on the light side. 2. there doesn't seem to be an automatic power-saving mode (once you've turned it on, the screen seems to stay on until you turn it off)

- Would be better if it just had a print option - it often asks to fax, copy etc but not print! why

+ My basis for assessment is as an HP owner for the past 14 years - my recent HP printers’ ability to consume expensive cartridges (+reliability issues) led me to source a printer from another company.
This printer has exceeded my expectations.
Software, whilst simple just works (not in keeping with the bloated driver stack that comes with HP which forever was asking for updates and regularly failed). Networking is a breeze (and again just works – unlike last HP product) In summary it does what it says on the box very competently (and cheaply too!).

- OK, so photo quality might be better on some other products - but if you tune the settings hidden in the driver the printer is capable of matching the HP C5180 - it could be better out of the box - also photo printing is not terrible fast. User interface could be more intuitive.

+ Very good quality and the copying facility is excellent. Its like having a Xerox machine at home. The controls and menues are easy to understand.

- The speed is slower than previous printers that I have owned but to attain quality you have to sacrifice on the speed so it is not a disastrous point

- The fax interferes with my phone line and we can't sort that one.

- Can't tell how much paper is in the tray without taking the tray out.
When scanning the scan does not appear on the monitor screen.

+ Produces very good quality colour photos quite fast. Letters etc print very fast. I am very pleased overall with this machine and would highly recommend it.

- The instructions are badly written and are too difficult for the ordinary user like me
What is required is a sequence of single sentences which will when followed produce immediate machine activity giving the basic operations that a simple user wants. Action following the simple instruction should bring the machine operation I seek.

- not very fast read from a SD card-computer

+ Great machine, easy to user with wireless network router via lan port. Can be used to print, scan etc wirelessly from a number of machines. Good print quality, simple to use.

- Have had a few teething problems printing to A4 photo paper when doing multiple pages.

+ I would find it difficult to fault this printer . I have this machine (my second Brother multi-function) for household use and it fills the role admirably.Being a pensioner I find it both economical to run and it produces excellent quality that fully satisfies my needs.Great ink system, I haven't had any need to try the Fax facility yet but maybe someday.
otherwise it does the business well.

- I found it very difficult to understand the information in the manual. I still have'nt managed to print the small photo's.

+ Excellent value for money compared to others I have purchased. The ink cartridges seem to last forever, I have printed over 200 pages since I bought it and am still on the first set installed as well as getting the same quality as the very first print. I literally have saved pounds already on ink cartridges, so I am very happy. It was easy to install with an easy to follow instruction manual, if I can do it anybody can.

- So far there are no bad points as far as I am concerned.

+ Simple to use, reliable, compact.

- Would be nice if it was supplied with 2 paper trays

+ I love the automatic maintenance when you leave it switched on. You no longer have to go through the head cleaning routine. Its quiiet and produces good quality outputs.

- My fault I didn't check properly but I thought all printers of this quality would have the ability to make a wireless connection designed in.

+ ease of use and cost of replacement ink

- A bit low but ok for home use. Printing small pictures was not to clear but that may have been down to the photo shop program I was using.

+ I do not use a printer enough to form a real opinion, but print quality is good and speed is good

- I do not have any need for a fax machine, so do not use it as such. I find it a nuisance when I first switch it on. If I could find a way to disable this function it would be good. It also takes so long cleaning when printing screen I get error messages saying print has failed and saying there is a queue. Also it will not accept my digital camera, saying something about .... whatever the message says. I can load pictures from this camera to my PC no trouble. Hence compatibility score, and overall rating.

+ Really well built, good print quality - fully network compatible including document to fax - excellent value for money - ink not cheap but reasonable (separate colours) - really pleased with my purchase

- no wi-fi but does have RJ45 and USB network connection. Struggles to feed 6x4 photo paper (too thick).

+ Excellently designed, small footprint. I like the power save button. Before I had a samsung laser all-in-one, whose print quality was woeful. There is very little to be disgruntled about. See next box)

- Sometimes when a page has been printed it grabs the page and stops it exiting, and drags it back into its belly, and then I have to unplug this and that an hoick the paper out, which is a pain. The other thing (like your fax machines, too) I have to keep a torch near the device because the messages are not legible in the average light In these days of cheap Leds, surely a backlight would not add much to the cost?

+ Budget priced - reasonable print quality and reasonably priced compatiable cartridges are available.

- Occasional paper jams. Noisy and slow and seems to use a lot of ink.
This like my previous Brother printer does not like to be de-powered meaning its always on standby and using power.

- I do not like the fact that it cannot deal with heavier quality paper such as 200gm photo paper. I recently bought an expensive pack of greeting card paper only to find that it jams in the printer every time.

+ The instructions are easy to follow and at least I got a booklet to follow rather than having to go online for instructions.

- It is noisy and slow and I really regret purchasing a printer/fax which does not have two options for paper loading. The fax is temperental and paper jams happen regularly.
If this was my first printer I would not be aware as to how good a printer can be. My previous printer was a Cannon and that was absolutely fabulous. I would most certainly purchase a Cannon again.

+ Ease of use, user friendly. Nice sharp photographic prints. Very compact, takes up very little space compared to other brands. It seems a bit more economical with the ink than other brands also.

+ Has everything I need in one device and performs much better than the HP Officejet it replaced - although lots of that result is more to do with software than the unit itself. Got the unit free for buying four sets of compatible ink cartridges, so you can't get much better value!

- The unit is so light, you have to hold it when pulling the paper tray out to reload. Thats it!!

- Fax that complicated that I have never managed to make it work, and, when connected, it makes my telephone system malfunction. Unable to easily load envelopes, and even when you do load them in the try, 9 out of 10 times they jam.
