Bosch SMS-50E Reviews: Freestanding, 60cm wide, Multi Dishwasher

+ The 29min fast wash option is excellent

- The loading trays are smaller and more awkward to than my previous same size dishwasher

+ Cleans really well and is quiet, helpful that you can take out the top rack and do an intensive wash on large raosting dishes and racks, takes the full 2 and half hours though.

- Only one place to put long stemmed glasses, so not so good when you entertain a lot.

+ Very quiet, easy to load and the menu is very simple making it very easy to use. Recommend this machine fully, it beats our (15yr old) Zanussi hands down on performance and load capacity but when we bought the Zanussi there was just two of us and now there are 5 of us with gowing teens and the new machine copes really well

- Occassionaly doesn't get all the plates clean but they are very large plates in fairness so I gave 9/10. I gave 9/10 for cycle time because a typical cycle is 2hrs 10 mins which seems long.

+ Simple to use programmes, good wash performance, adjustable racks make loading easy.

- Dishes a little wet on completion of the cycle and not 100% clean using the auto/daily wash cycle. Cleaning and drying much better on the intensive cycle.

+ Cleans really well, the saucepans come out really shiny.
Does whats its supposed to and for the money cant really fault it.

- Choice of programmes is a bit limited!
Buttons don't seem that sturdy, wonder how long they will last!

- No long spikes to put tall glasses, resulting in lots of broken glasses.

+ Plenty of program choices, very quiet and does a great job. Our last Bosch dishwasher lasted 10 years with daily use so I hope this is just as good - build quality certainly seems to be just as good, sop fingers crossed.

+ Had an Ariston that lasted for 12 years, will just have have to see if the Bosch can last just the same, maybe longer : ) . Good loading placeing as seem to have loads of spaces to fill in.The half hour cycle is just as good for a normal Sunday roast with all its grime it still comes out clean. Can't find any bad points as yet.

- Some cycles are a bit long, but no real issue as run late at night, on the main eco cycle, only programme i've been using so far, the drying still leaves some water in the dips on the base of mugs, previous bosch dw was better at drying.

+ This was a straight replacement for an old indesit one we had owned for years. We have only used the eco cycle which is more than enough for everyday plates, dishes etc. The one thing we noticed was how much more we could get into it compared with the last one. It cleans beautifully and is pretty quiet. It looks and feels well built as you would expect. For the average family who know nothing about dishwashers and use mainly one cycle, you can't beat this.

+ The best thing is its quietness - it is remarkably quiet in operation and it does get things clean so we are very pleased with it so far - less than a month.

- Not really bad, but the instructions that came with it were a bit confusing with regard to the use of salt. We easily got the hardness of our water from the water company and entered this into the data required but it didn't seem to be needed because the washing tablet contains salt anyway.

+ Good performance, easy to load, plenty of space for little things. It's so so quiet, i have to get down on my knees to see if its actually working, Love the clock to tell you how long you have left on the cycle.

- The only bad point i can find is that is does not dry as well as my last one (hoover). Oh and the economy cyle does not clean too well.

- Does not seem as quiet in operation as the product specification would lead you to believe.
Recoil springs on front door seem too strong for the weight of the front door - i.e. if you let go of the door before it is fully lowered, it snaps back shut with quite some force - also, the distance from the grab point on the front panel to the top of the door makes it a little awkward to push down on the door against the force of the return springs as it lowers to full extension.
Salt funnel fits inside sump aperture so there is no visibility of the salt level until it is up inside the funnel - the funnel should ideally fit around the aperture with a cut-out in the side to allow visibility of the level as it rises to avoid excessive salt spillage inside the machine, forcing a rinse cycle to avoid damage to the metallic surface.

+ 30 min cycle good but tablet does not dissolve

- Difficult to load larger dishes at top

+ Very quiet and excellent cleaning. Excellent clearance for large dinner plates on bottom tray.

- Poor stacking on top tray and needs more choice of cycles for the cost.

- Does not dry very well

+ Quality of build, ease of use, low water usage, reliability. Have had a Bosch washing machine for 7 years and it has never faltered. My last dishwasher was cheaper then the Bosch but only lasted 18 months.

- Economy wash lasts 2.5 hours.

+ excellent washer plus useful choice of cycles

- full cycles take over 2 hours but wash well.
the machine has difficulties with a variety of wash tablet types - sometimes staying in the draw, or sticking to the shelf and as such needed the whole cycle repeating - another >2h!

- doesn't dry as well as previous machine. there is an "extra drying" feature I now discover but too late :-(

+ Very neat looking machine. The led display telling how long the cycle has left is useful. The layout inside is user friendly. The interior is all metal better than some models which have a moulded plastic insert.

- Whilst the quick wash is good it needs another wash of about 1hr as the next wash at the moment goes on for 2 hrs 25 which is a long time.

+ It's very quiet, easy to load with the adjustable racks.Simple controls and love that it can be set to come on at night to use the cheaper electricity. Fill it through the day and everything is clean in the morning.
