Conventional ovens heat from the bottom so the top of the oven will be slightly hotter than the bottom. This is useful when you’re cooking lots of different dishes at a time. However, they do take a little longer than fan ovens to heat up.

Convection (or fan) ovens circulate the air so that you get an even temperature throughout the oven. They are quicker to heat up which means they save on energy and time.

Multifunction (convection or conventional) ovens give you the flexibility to use different methods of cooking. Pyrolytic programmes run for a couple of hours and burn off all the grime in your oven at temperatures up to 500°C. As it gets so hot, the oven door usually locks so that all you need to do is sweep up the ash that’s left over at the end.
