+ Easy to set up and use. Massive storage and easy to conceal whilst using outside.

- Ear phones keep falling out and control position is a little too high up wire. could do with being lower down for access whilst listening.

+ With itunes installing and downloading so easy, its light and so portable you forget that you have it on. it sounds so good, well worth the purchase. I would recommend it.

- not very keen on the switch on the head phone lead you tend to be thumbling around trying to change tune. best advice down load songs that you really like dump the head phones and get some that clip around your ear and set the volume settings in itunes and your away.

+ small compact size & more memory

- the product didn't tell you that if you use a different headphone, you don't have any control as the remote is hooked to the earphone (which is rubbish anyway) so it's not so easily portable - you'd have to carry the remote in your bag in case you want to change the volume. Its not loud neither compared to the 2GB which is a let down for gym. Still think the 2GB is better but they are hard to find these days as it's been discontinued.

+ Easy to use when you're out and about. Good sound quality and good value for money. Voice over feature is useful.

- It doesn't recognise names of tracks/albums that have been downloaded from the internet. Had to manually type the name of track for it to be recognised by the voice over feature.

+ The shocking pink colour immediately attracted my eye to purchase this for my wife, it looked neat & compact. It is extremely easy to load all the playlists required for a run, cycle, etc (4Gb is an ideal size as you'd soon get bored & want to change them anyway), the built in software combined with i- tunes is idiot proof. Sound quality is superb, the volume is not limited too much like some units (don't get me wrong, you won't be left with bleeding ear drums or tinitus). Plenty of cable from the Pod to the ear pieces without pulling them out when you turn your head.

- Toooooooo tiny !!(admittedly I hadn't took the time to see it in the flesh). As there is no visual display you are entireley dependant upon the controls built into the headset supplied with the I-Pod to cycle through your playlists, thus, being unable to take advantage of the Seinheiser set I had additionally purchased

+ good sound quality.

- No functions on the acual ipod itself that enable you to skip tracks. You need to use the (badly designed) headphones for this. This is a real problem if you attatch the ipod to your car cassette system because you cannot skip to the next track, you have no choice but to listen to the track that is playing. The earphones look very cheap and flimsy and the actual skip control is too high up on the earphones. The ipod itself is ridiculously small. You need to use itunes to put music on the ipod, which caused some incompatibility issues on my PC.

Expert reviews for Apple iPod Shuffle 4GB 3rd Generation

TechRadar expert review

Apple's third-generation shuffle is a radical revision of the entry-level iPod. The controls have moved to the cable under the right-hand earbud, with only a Shuffle/Continuous Play/Off switch on the device itself. This has allowed for the smallest, neatest-looking shuffle yet. It also boasts a beautiful metallic finish in black or grey and a sturdy metal clip. Using the handy, easy-to-reach controller, you can adjust the volume, pause and unpause your sounds and skip or restart the current track. Press and hold the function button and a synthesised voice reads the song name and artist…

Pocket Lint expert review

We were given the opportunity by Apple to have a first hand look at the new iPod Shuffle following the keynote speech by Steve Jobs. But is the new digital music player the final nail in the coffin for the rest of the MP3 market, or is it just hype? The first thing that you'll notice is the size, it's very small and very light...

Expert Reviews expert review

The latest version of the iPod shuffle is notable for two things: it now comes in five colours - silver, black, pink, blue and green - and the headphone remote is now available in earphones from third-party manufacturers, which means that you no longer have to put up with Apple\'s included earbuds.

MP3 Players Buying Guide

Manufacturer's Description

This is small.

45.2 mm (1.8") tall x 7.8 mm (0.3") thin to be exact.

To create the world’s smallest music player, we moved the controls from iPod shuffle to the earbud cord. This allowed us to make the new iPod shuffle dramatically smaller, but not just for dramatically smaller’s sake. It’s also easier to use, with the controls located where you can access them quickly.
Remote portion of the Apple Earphones with Remote.

Easy access controls.

The controls of the new iPod shuffle are located on the right earbud cord. With command central now strategically placed in this more convenient location, you can navigate your music — and activate the VoiceOver feature — without taking your eyes off your run, your ride or whatever you’re doing.

Your music library. To go.

There was a time when limited storage meant you had to leave a lot of your songs on the sync-room floor. But now that iPod shuffle has 4GB of storage, you have plenty of room to store hours and hours of music — up to 1,000 songs.* With room for multiple playlists, too.

Fashion tech-cessory.

Even the iPod shuffle clip gets the rock star treatment. Now forged in stainless steel, the clip attaches securely to your shirt, jacket, workout gear, even your backpack. And the sleek, durable, anodised aluminium case — available in silver or black — makes iPod shuffle a wardrobe essential. And yes, there’s still room for personalised engraving.

This is huge.

Introducing VoiceOver.

Musically speaking, the new iPod shuffle is brilliant, thanks to an exciting new feature called VoiceOver. Say you’re listening to a song and want to know the title or the artist. With the press of a button, VoiceOver tells you as the music dips down. It even announces the names of your playlists. And when your battery needs charging, VoiceOver tells you that, too.

Multiple playlists.

You’ve probably made multiple playlists in iTunes. One for your commute. One for the gym. One for just chilling out. With the new iPod shuffle, you can sync your playlists and always find the perfect mix for your activity or mood. VoiceOver tells you the name of each playlist, so it’s easy to switch between them and find the one you want without looking.

Multi-music-lingual.

A French love song. A Spanish bolero. An Italian cantata. Your music library has songs from all over the world. That’s why VoiceOver speaks 14 different languages. So it can tell you song titles and artists in the correct languages.

Shuffle. Straight. Stop.

The shuffle switch has three positions. Flip it to the left and your music shuffles for a “whatever happens, happens” flow. Flip it to the middle and your songs play in order. Or flip to the right to turn it off.

*Song capacity is based on 4 minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding; in 256-Kbps AAC format, song capacity is up to 500 songs; actual capacity varies by encoding method and bit rate.
