+ Sound, ease of use and features.

- Not compatible with previously purchased iPod charger or iPod stereo. Very disappointing, as this means that it can only be charged via PC/Laptop. The product itself is wonderful.

+ Great product.

- Previously owned an i-pod - the charger adaptor connection is the same however, it’s not compatible with the Nano. What a waste ! plus price of accessories are ridiculous. Talk about maximising profit from 'added value' accessory products.

+ Good value for money, nice design and good capacity for the price. Loved the colour and compact size, very easy to use.

- I've read a number of reviews warning buyers that accessories issued for use with previous generations of ipod won't necessarily work - I recommend doing your research and checking that the reviews for any accessories actually state that they have found the item compatible with this specific version of ipod (it seems the product description on some websites is not always reliable). The product only comes with the cable to link it to your laptop and so this is the only way of charging it if you rely on what's in the box - however I found it very easy to purche a mains charger for only a couple of pounds from a reputable website so this didn't add very much at all to the cost.

+ Stylish, light, portable, great 'shake' feature, nicely packaged.

- Does not come with mains charger - transferring songs, videos and podcasts complicated (not simple drag and drop as all other MP3 players). Tiny little quickstart guide comes with it - all other info/manual is online. Even online manual is limited - for example doesn't tell you how to delete/remove songs. There are cheaper MP3/MP4 players on the market with as much memory that are far easier to use! You need to be well up on itunes to be able to use this one.

+ It has many updated features from the old ipod. Genius feature, shake and shuffle, sleek design, Games, video are all great. Sounds brilliant too.

- It doesn't charge on my IPOD speakers like my previous IPOD meaning I have to charge when on computer, The battery runs out a lot quicker than on the 3rd generation Ipod of which I had previously. The shake and shuffle can be problematic if you don't want to put it on hold.

+ very small and easy to use. I bought this to use with the Nike+ and it is an ideal size for going running but still stores more than enought music.

- Apple always seem to charge for every thing and my charger for my IPOD classic does not work with this even though the connections are exactly the same.

Expert reviews for Apple iPod Nano 8GB 4th Generation

TechRadar expert review

Apple's ubiquitous iPod family has dominated the market from day one and the iPod nano remains one of the most popular models. Its wafer-thin 7mm profile is impressive with its lightweight stature making little or no dent in the pocket. However, don't be fooled by its slim design as it feels robust and expertly constructed. With only a lock switch adorning its frame, complete operation is left to the central touch wheel. Like previous iPods, the Cover Flow album art and the ultra intuitive menu system mean it remains slick for grazing speedily through your songs.Restrictive contentWheth…

Expert Reviews expert review

Apple\'s latest iPod Nano has the same 2in 320x240-pixel colour screen as the previous Nano (see Shopper, What\'s New 238), but it\'s in portrait rather than landscape orientation, giving more room for long lists of songs.

MP3 Players Buying Guide

Manufacturer's Description

Rockalicious. Colour isn’t the only brilliant new iPod nano feature.

Colour isn’t the only brilliant new iPod nano feature.

A musical Genius.
Say you’re listening to a song you really like and want to hear other tracks that go great with it. The Genius feature finds the songs in your music library that go great together and makes a Genius playlist for you. It’s like having your own highly intelligent, personal DJ.

Rock and roll over.
Tilt or turn iPod nano on its side, and you’ll listen, watch and play in new ways. You can flip through your album art with Cover Flow. Or, vertically speaking, see more albums and artists on the screen at one time.

Let the games begin.
Now you can get in on games made especially for iPod nano and the accelerometer. They respond to the way you move, so they’re immersive, addictive and a blast. iPod nano comes with Maze, which lets you work your way through vast mazes by tilting and moving. You can find even more games on the iTunes Store.

Even your photos rock.
Pull hundreds of photos from your pocket and share them wherever you go. Hold iPod nano upright and see your photos in portrait view. Turn it on its side to see them in landscape. Your photos look beautiful in their proper aspect ratio on the vibrant, 320-by-240-resolution display.

Find your music faster.
It’s even easier to find the song you want to hear. Now you can view your album art in Cover Flow. Or just press and hold the Centre button to browse by album or artist. When you find the right song, press the Center button to add it to your on-the-go playlist.

Shake your groove thing.
Sometimes, we could all use a little unpredictability. And now you can shake to shuffle your music. Just give iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library. You’ll always be surprised by what you’ll hear.

World’s biggest small screen.
Watching movies, TV shows and videos is big fun on iPod nano. And the high-resolution picture looks crisp and vivid on the 2-inch widescreen display. So you can always have a little video with you.
