Reevoo's summary of reviews:

The Advent 4213 is similar to its sibling the 4212, but comes with a
more generous 160GB hard disk, a bigger 10.2" screen, and a built-in
HSDPA modem for fast 3G wireless mobile internet without a dongle
sticking out the side. Battery life is average, the computer's a bit
heavy and bulky, and the keyboard is more cramped than it needs to be,
but if you want a fast computer with 3G capabilities, it may be a good
choice.

+ There is a built in mobile "phone" for mobile internet, so it does not need any kind of additional solution for internet. You only need to put your SIM card into the slot.
I changed my dualcore laptop to this netbook. It is only 1.4 kg. It has a large (160GB) HDD.

- As changing quite frequently the keyboards between my netbook and desktop PC sometimes it makes me confused.

+ great little machine, perfect for what i needed it for...to surf the net in a warm room (instead of the desk top in a cold one) and to use images as reference material in workshop (also use as mp3 player attached to speakers in workshop).

- For me I found uploading things without a cd player hard so just bought an external player to make life easier but nothing else.

+ Excellent compact design, with almost every feature of a full sized laptop, comprehensive instructions and set-up guide with Windows XP, NOT Vista, as an operating system were the deciding factors and its simple to use and work with. I often work abroad and bought it to travel with and leave my much heavier, older laptop at home. It's light weight but has all the usual features which makes it well worth the expense of buying it as a 2nd computer.

- The only point that let me down is that its built-in WiFi antenna seems to lack the power to pick up the Network signals that I often have to use, and is sometimes very slow to connect and even drops the connection at times, although this is partly due to the poor WiFi newtork strength in some parts of the Caribbean, so a booster Antenna may be necessary in this case.

+ 10 inch screen netbook with mobile internet and 2Gb RAM and 160Gb Hard Disk.

- Totally different manufacturer and design from previous Advent (badged) netbook models and I am very happy to have replaced this 4213 with the 4211-c principally because the keyboard on the 4211-c make exceptionally good use of the space while the 4213 keyboard is significantly smaller / less ergonomic. Mobile Internet (bandwidth) is very expensive and I would only find this useful on an occasional basis - however this may be the feature that makes the 4213 the better choice for some. NB. if you purchase the reconditioned model you are likely to need to download and install the driver for the Wi-Fi card.

+ The screen is really bright.
The battery life is above average.
The ability to upgrade with vista or windows 7 as all hardware is compatible.
It is really light only 1.4 kg.
Has great connectivity, wireless, wired and a built in 3G modem so internet where ever you go.
Sound quality is better than expected, not so trebley as you would normally expect from a laptop or netbook.

- No latch for the screen, I know this supposed to be a bad point but the hinge for the screen isn't as easy to open so no accidental opening and scratching the screen.
With silent mode off the fan can get quite loud, kind of sounds like a jet engine starting up.

+ Lightweight & portable but not so small as to be fiddly. Well specified with excellent connectivity options including onboard sim card which was the main reason for my purchase of this model. Bright screen even when using battery. Built in webcam & microphone. Mulicard reader.

- Have seen other reviews which complain about the keyboard layout and the flat-top keys and I have to agree although I wouldn't let that put anyone, other than a touch typist, off. Not really a bad point but of course as with all notebooks you'll need access to another computer to transfer programmes via memory stick or get an external optical drive.

The advantage is that I'll take in on holiday and download all photo's and tilte them straight away while they are fresh in the mind. My music collection on cd is now mp3/4 and I can take most of my collection on one 8g memory stick, doesn't get much better.

With its dual core Atom processor its the same spec as my old DV2000 laptop. I have since sold my old laptop as this does all I need. At 1/3 of the price!

+ Compact, strong case, clear screen, quiet, large hard disk. Great to have the built-in Bluetooth and 3G slot. Good battery life for all sensible uses. This machine is a joy to own. Strongly recommended. The machine feels solid and well-built, far better than the MSI Wind clones, such as the 4489. Thankfully it is not overloaded by bloatware either. The Restore media creation was straightforward, but you need a 4GB pendrive.

- The keyboard has been criticised in reviews and it takes a bit of getting used to. But it is well-made and after a few days I can type on it perfectly well. This slight drawback is far outweighed by the positives.

+ Good value compact machine that came with everything i need at the moment, including plenty of memory, which is ideal for my itunes.

- I am still trying to get the feel of the smaller keyboard, as it is much smaller than my desktop one I use during the day.

- Wirless adapter is very poor quality and doesn't get very good signal, keyboard is to flat and some of the keys are to small i.e. the enter key and the ADVENT logo on the back could easily peal off.. It wasn't as good quality as the Acer Aspire One series of netbooks. So bad and dissappointed that I sent it back

+ The whole Netbook is amazing! The sim port to connect using a sims 3G is a great extra that many others dont include, the general speeds of this tiny unit is fast and can run the internet at as expected high speeds. The screen is a great size and easy to see and read from. The whole unit is small but not too small to make it hard/difficult to use. It is and would be a hard life not to have this with me whenever and wherever i go!! BEST BUY EVER!

- The power on/off switch feels very cheap and flimsy on the front. The over glossy lid is so easy to scratch and look messy very quickly! Had issues in getting the recovery to load onto the usb flash drive, had to call tech guys and they sent me a disc! PROBLEM SOLVED!

+ Compact and light. Includes a number of useful ideas with good communication features. Good screen. Excellent HDD capacity and good 1 GB memory. Good battery life - about 3 hours. PC World gave me a refund without any quibble when I took the first unit back as U/S.

- Seems a bit slow to get going! Sound system not very good with microphone difficult to hear when using Skype. Pity a small cloth bag could not be included (like ASUS) to save scratching the shiny lid surface. Had to return the first unit with problems.

Nice keyboard, God quality display
CPU can be switched betwen 800/1600 MHz manually when system working
Easy to move - i can get it anywhere

- Definitly NOT 6 hours battery life....
Too slow CPU/GPU to watch HD video from YouTube, and getting slow at any time when website has video/animation
Getting HOT when working and NOISY (on 1600 MHz mode)
System Backup software can't write on SD card, and has problem with some USB-Pen drive

+ Bought this for my young son's birthday so we didn't have to worry about him causing issues on our main PC while he's learning. He's just 4, so we needed something quite robust and simple that wouldn't break the bank. His little hands manage perfectly on the keyboard and mouse button. Non-split mouse button hasn't proved a problem for him at all which surprised me a bit. Start-up seems pretty quick. Keeps wireless connection very well indeed. Construction seems solid enough. We now use it ourselves in the evenings to check ebay and such from the comfort of the sofa.

- If you've never tried using the web on a 10" screen before, you really should try it before you buy a product like this. It's small for portability, and rightly so, so you can't really complain, but there is a lot of scrolling involved, and some larger images and web games simply don't fit on the screen. (You can change the zoom level in your web browser away from 100%, but this is getting into 'fixes'). Battery life is far from the best on this device, so if that's paramount, this probably isn't for you. Keyboard is very average purely because it's cramped for full size hands. Some competitors seem to have done this a lot better, but they were all a lot more expensive at time of purchase.

Expert reviews for Advent 4213 Atom 1GB

TechRadar expert review

The Advent 4213 (¬£350 inc. VAT) is the second Netbook from PC World's in-house brand and features mobile Broadband connectivity as standard. While usability is mixed, the excellent build quality, storage and wireless features make it easy to recommend. The 1.4kg chassis features a stylish black design. Build quality is fantastic, although the glossy lid attracts scratches and Ô¨Ångerprints. While the 205-minute battery life is bettered by some rivals, it is still a strong result considering the use of such a small 3-cell battery.Sharp screenThe keyboard has a very smooth and tactile…
