Score 9.0/10+ Great sound, very loud for such a compact system. The sub packs a good punch and it doesn't get too messy. When you do crank up the volume it does lose some composure, but then that is when it is very loud. Overall I am very pleased with this system
- The sub box is slightly bigger than I would have liked, doesn't easily fit under my desk. Comes with a straight heaphone jack for the input, and my laptop has the phones output on the righthand side so it sticks out right where I use the mouse. Would have been good with a right angled jack.

Score 9.0/10+ Fantastic sound quality for the money - my ipod played through the Aego M is as good as through my Bose wave unit. Excellent build quality - really solid construction. Impressive room filling sound from such small speakers. Not to the degree that you would get from a system with a set of decent bookshelf speakers but impressive none the less. Again it compares very favourably with the Bose.

None really. It's worth mentioning is that the base setting switch is difficult to get to but as you rarely need to access it that's not really a problem.
As you would expect for this kind of set up, it plays certain types of music better than others. Base is always excellent, as is high frequency (giving good reproduction for dance music etc and also more acoustic things). Where it struggles slightly is on powerful midrange stuff that falls between the capabilities of the 2 speaker types (e.g. guitar based stuff) but this at least 50% of what I listen too and is certainly not an issue. So far I have also only used them with an ipod and in my experience the ipod output struggles in similar areas so I can't rule out this being the source. I still wouldn't let this put me off - they are phenomenal for the money!

Score 9.0/10+ Excellent value for money. Superb sound at this price range.
- A little weak on the mid range, but what can you expect at this price. However a centre speaker can be used to give you the missing mid range.

Score 7.0/10+ The speaker system was well built, easy to set up, powerful and offered higher sound quality than norm.
- The bass emitted from the system is far too high for neighbour-considerate people living in flats or semi-detached properties, this was even with the bass adjusted to the lowest of three settings, and also with the bass set to minimum on my PC's various media players. Radio stations played through the speakers (via the internet) emmited so much bass that I could not bear it. I had to sell the speaker system due to these problems. Some of the higher sound frequencies did not project that well, they often sounded weak and wishy-washy. The sub-woofer was too large, almost the size of my PC's CPU and thus difficult to find room for, even on a large desk!

Score 8.0/10+ For the price this is a well made product that delivers a good quality sound
- The instructions are poor, athough no complicated to set up, it should include something a little clearer to help those who may not be used to buying this type of product.

Score 9.0/10+ great sound quality, for the price AND irrespective of the price
- no remote volume control or wireless connection. Wireless receiver even as add on would be good. alternate might be fm reciever due to reduced cost of fm transmitters

Score 9.0/10+ I don't understand why people buy much more expensive systems when the AE M Series provides such excellent sound quality for a fraction of the price.
- Not very portable but then it isn't suposed to be

Score 9.0/10+ sound clarity
- would be better if an appropriate carrying case was available to transport the system, as opposed to carrying the speakers around in a cardboard box.

Expert reviews for Acoustic Energy Aego M Series
Pocket Lint expert review
Acoustic Energy is a British company better known for its Hi-Fi speakers than its PC peripherals, so you won't find the standard array of connections. For instance, there are three sets of spring clips for left, centre and right outputs, although it only ships with two satellite terminals. The subwoofer is the centre of the setup with an integrated mains power cable and a series of connection points across the back there are plenty of connection options...

TechRadar expert review
Acoustic Energy is a British company that makes hi-fi speakers and this has led to some significant differences when you compare its Aego M series speakers with more typical PC and laptop kit. As usual, the subwoofer is the hub of the system with an integrated mains power cable and a series of connection points across the back, but then it gets odd. There are three sets of spring clips for left, centre and right outputs, although you only get two satellites, which is strange, as we have never heard of a 3.1 setup. There are three RCA inputs on the subwoofer and a selection of cables t…
