+ Top Spec Laptop for the price.

- The CINEHD Pad is problematic. Ater a few hours of use. The volume On Screen Display stays on. When touching the volume slide it reduces to zero by itself. You need to remove power supply, remove battery for 10 secs and the return the battery and power to revitalise. Only glitch really and its only happened once.

+ Great mutimedia laptop, TV card and widescreen with blu ray, 5.1 surround sound really good.
High end graphics card plays most modern PC games with ease.
Plenty of memory and processing power runs most applications with ease.

- Remote control good for nothing, only has a range of approx 1 foot (if that) which according to Acer support is normal which i something I find extremely hard to believe.
Avermedia TV card RF aerial jack is a poor design, easily broken
Touchpad controls look very trick but for volume very difficult to get right, it either goes to high or low or fails to recognise you want to change it, not drastic but annoying.
Acer support very poor, blunt bordering on rude.

+ Very good design, looks amazing, comes with brilliant software and is very powerful. The Blu-Ray drive, for the most part, is brilliant. The sound, for a laptop, is astonishing, and the touch panel is a rather nice addition. The fingerprint scanner is a very well implemented gadget which can be used for more than biometric security, although some may see it as gimmicky. Also comes with a built-in webcam, Bluetooth, Wireless 802.11 a/b/g/Draft-N, card-reader, Kensington lock mount and all manner of connectivity (3xUSB, HDMI, D-SUB, RJ-45, RJ-11, Firewire, SP-DIF).

- Doesn't seem to be HDCP compatible, meaning throughput to my HDTV via HDMI is a no go. A shame considering it's Blu-Ray capability. Also, Acer's own Blu-Ray playback software is not compatible with all discs, even after updates. If you want definitive disc compatability, your options are either to invest in third part software which will read your discs, or stick with a dedicated BD-Live player. I also had a problem with the BD Drive reading a CD-ROM (Disc 3 of Max Payne 2, for what it's worth). It happened on two different copies of the game, so it is advised to have have other methods handy should something of this nature happen to you. In my case, I connected my Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive and used it as an external CD-ROM drive.

+ The product is fine and works wonderful, its screen is quite big, enough to watch TV on, as a matter of fact I am ordering another one with a TV tuner on and this will be given to my son to play games on line with his friends.

- The only bad things I can high light is the weight and also that spending so much miney a carrying case was deprived. In my opinion this should be included in price.

+ Absolutely brilliant laptop! I'm a photographer and needed something that could keep up with the editing programs I use and this does beautifully. I wanted a large screen and decent sized key board so this isn't what you'd call a 'carry it around all day' laptop, though it is portable enough to travel with.
All features are top notch; the HD screen, the memory, HDD space, the sound system...I could go on.
Basically, it's a fantastic laptop and worth every penny!! Hope that helps.

- Battery only lasts 2 - 3 hrs, though it is a big screen. Could do with being a 9 cell battery.

+ Brilliant Laptop! Recommend it to anyone. All my friends drool over it. The cinedash is a great feature which allows me to skip songs on windows media player without switching screens. The screen is of a good size to watch DVD or Blue ray discs on. Movies are complimented by the dolby 5.1 surround, which is of a high quality and the loudest I have heard in a laptop.

- Comes with Windows Vista :o(
Vista takes up far to much resources slowing the computer down so much that I am unable to play the same games as a friend who has a much lower spec laptop.
Hopefully the drivers will come out for windows 7 when it is released making this an amazing laptop.

+ Nicely designed laptop with an excellent full HD (1920x1080) screen that is gorgeous to look at.

- Both the wireless and wired network ports are unstable, the wireless port hardly works at all and the wired port dies during large file transfer. Due to the large screen size and numerous media features, battery life is not very good.

+ Appearance, screen size and console. Good hardware specification, but let down by Vista.

- The amount of totally unnecessary Acer and Trial software installed. Most Acer sofware only duplicates programs already in Vista causing conflicts and poor performance. I have uninstalled all unnecessary sofware, repartioned the hard disk and am running Windows 7 RC1 as well, which leaves Vista standing in terms of performance.

+ A true desktop replacement with the performance to run very demanding video and audio, including blueray. 18.5" screen is amazing for videos and separate numpad really useful for games.

- The features and big screen give this laptop an inherent problem with weight. The laptop also has a high power consumption so battery life is limited to 1 1/2 hours. Th elaptop is portable, but you would not want to be carrying it for long distances.

Score 10.0/10

+ I purchased the Acer 8930G as desktop replacement. I use the laptop as a entertainment centre where I store my music and photographs and watch t.v. using the onboard t.v. tuner. With 640 gig of storage on board it wll be some time before I fill it up. The screen is superb, full H.D. (and so big) and really comes into it's own when watching Blue Ray films. The sound system is really good for a laptop (probably the best I have heard so far). The GeForce 9700m graphics card is more than capable for everything I use the laptop for. This is my third Acer computer. I use a Travelmate laptop (now 6 years old) when travelling and my desktop is now the family workhorse. It was the build quality and reliability of these two machines that led me to purchasing the 8930G. Overall, a superb machine that I would recommend to anyone.

- None really. Battery life is short, but then what can you expect from such a powerful machine, and I did buy as a desktop replacement. Where I live we suffer from power cuts and that is where the battery comes into its own, cutting in when the mains go down and therefore saving anything I am working on.
The only problem I have had, is when the CineDash Media Console froze. This was cured by switching off the laptop, removing the battery, waiting 20 seconds. This cured the problem and it hasn't reacurred since.

+ Great PC desktop replacement. Loads of memory. Needed a laptop that could be mobile around the flat. Like the big screen. HDTV is great. Like the remote. I don't watch TV much so this was a nice option to have a tv without it being an additional eyesore in the living space.

- Not a fan of Vista. Vista is also not compatible with many legacy printers. Suggest waiting for next OS version.
The media player controls are no good. Mine stopped working 3 months in. I use the mouse or the remote.
Call me old fashioned but I also expected a DVD so that I could use as a backup to restore factory settings. It's provided in the system, but it's hard to find and you have to manually burn your own DVD. This isn't a very good option for basic users and it should have been more clear at the time of purchase as it's nearly impossible to get the DVD restore after the purchase.
