+ big screen value for money

- too much preloaded software that makes the computer slow to start

+ very good for the price. have everything you may need on a multimedia computer, starting with a powerfull RAM and graphics memory, to a good bundle of connectivity ports (USBs, firewire, all sorts of memory cards...) internet-wireless connectivity is powerfull and great.

- battery life should be better. you need to boot twice on every start but it might be due to Windows vista. The package comes without any CD/DVDs. First installation stucks at the 12th and the last stage, it is not a problem ( as has a easy solution when communicated with acer help) but annoying. It is on the heavy side, so you need a good laptop bag.

- Problems with start-up. Fails to start first time 90% of the time, need to switch off and re-try. Flimsy feeling keyboard.

+ Has a good spec. Blu-ray Rom, Core 2 Duo , 3GB Ram, 250Gb HD, 17" monitor, ok graphics. The refurbished package offeres overall good value for money.

- Graphics should be more powerfull as they dont give a very high rating on the graphics performance measurement software. The DVI connection port is yesterdays connection standard, with a blu-ray movie player you would expect a standardised HDMI port to be offered instead. The user is therefore burdened to further purchase DVI-HDMI cable converters to connect to HDMI devices such as LCD or projectors. A cleaning cloth to clean the screen should be given. The battery length is OK, in this day and age you would expect a nuclear fuel cell installed to give 100 years of laptop power usage. Users want vista installation discs on the probable chance in the laptops life time a OS reinstall is required. No Recovery discs provided. No instructions on going to specific web sites for driver updates. Audio ports should be at the back. No printed manuals.

- it doesnt always starts up first time and has to be switched off and started again most of the time.

- Vista is the bad point, not the laptop itself. If I had known Vista was as bad as this I would have avoided it like the plague. It is terrible to say the least. Give me XP any day

+ It has a complete keyboard i.e. it includes the numerical keypad and associated keys as well as the typerwriter section.

Quick wiyh great graphics

- Heavy

+ well laid out keyboard easy to set up and use on a daily basis. Acer eNet software made connecting to a wireless network easy. For the price an excellent buy.

+ Nvidia geforce 9300 graphics card, 17" screen, webcam, great performance and VALUE FOR MONEY!

- Perhaps a better looking interior would have been preferable, instead of white.

+ The laptop has an eye catching 17inch screen which is perfect when watching a blu ray movie on. The colour inside of the keys is also smart and not the regular. The built in webcam is a perfect picture without any blurryness. I own one of these myself and i bought the reconditioned model for my husband. The only downside i have is the volume isnt very loud, but i get around that with headphones, apart from that im very pleased with it. The reconditioned laptop was in perfect and new condition, with no scratches or damage.

- the computer fails to switch on in about 40% of cases the light goes on but the machine does not boot.It has to be switched off by the on/off button and the process repeated.

+ Excellent specifiaction laptop for the price.

- Battery life is only a maximum of 2.5 hours. Acer software slows system right down.

- Do not buy. If you prefer very slow laptop and if you want to switch on and of many times befor it starts then go for this type of laptop. they are very slow as well and waist of money.

- The product has a boot up fault which is only rectified by flashing the BIOs. This is a tricky process and shouldnt be undertaken by a beginner.

- It didn't work - hard drive was corrupt, windows didn't install properly and it would not function on external power at all.

+ Overall good specification on paper but quality poor. Selected laptop for graphics card and playing games. Games play well.

- Does not always power up. Every one in four time power up attempts there is a blank screen (black). If this occurs only way to reset laptop is to remove the battery and try again. Technical support at Acer recommended this. ACER technical support no help at all in solving the real problem.
Another problem is the wireless connection, for no reason at all it cuts out after a period of time and the only way to get a connection back is to power down the laptop and above problem can also occur when trying to switch back on. This is a very bad situation

- Didn't work when I first recieved it, took a lot of effort to resolve the problem. A lot of phoning around tech guys and acer support. Cost me a lot in phone bills.

+ The Wireless card is really good. I can get a full signal from across the house, where my last laptop kept dropping signal. The processor is nice and fast, its the core 2 duo. I put 4 gig of ram in mine and windows 7 64 bit, runs excellent. I also dual boot Ubuntu on it and that all works out of the box. It's not a machine you'd get for carrying around, it's rather a desktop replacement. The hard drive has plenty of room at 250 gig. It has plenty of ports also, DVI, 4 USB, firewire.

- Battery life isn't great, about 2 hours. There is a BIOS update on Acers site for these laptops, stay clear of that. Keep the one it shipped with. Unless you have issue. I got the BIOS update and the fans go on and off now at weird times, it can be annoying. But they say on the site not to get the BIOS unless you need it. I wish I had heeded the advice. It's also quite a big laptop, so I put mine on a desk.

- Bluray player was a bit laggy when using it in the native resolution - standard dvd were fine

+ Excellent features and performance for the price. Nice screen. This laptop makes an excellent desktop replacement with some protability rather than a portable notebook. If you don't have a lot of space, but need some serious computing power/performance, this is the product for you.

- The battery life and weight do not make this a serious contender as a notebook and the graphics capabilities mean this won't be a serious gaming machine.

- the mouse pad is very sensitive and you often touch it while typing and it causes hard work, would be better with a smaller pad or moving slightly to one side.

- sometimes after shutting the lid it will not come out of sleep mode....i have hold the power button down to switch off and the turn back on to which it ask me if i want safe mode.
the laptop says 'ready for output to hdtv' for which i expected an hdmi port but not so.....don't know if its missed off or if i have to connect another way.

+ Reasonable priced Desktop replacement (not very portable), with big screen. Can take 2 Hard drives (comes with one and you can easily add a second)
