+ Great specs and great pics but major user issues which Tamron and Nikon need to sort out!

- This lens, which I bought to fit my Nikon D50 has issues talking to the camera which mean that the camera locks frequently meaning that the camera has to be turned off frequently to reset it. The lens is great but this appears to be an issue which is discussed on the internet and damages the overall enjoyment of its use and is very very frustrating.

Score 7.0/10

+ Amazing range- this really is an all-purpose travel or leisure photography lens.
Regarding image quality I haven't noticed any diminution in moving from my Nikkors.
Autofocus not as bad as some reviews state as long as you are not covering sports for example.
The VR mechanism worked well.

- Bit on the heavy/bulky side but then it's got a lot packed in!
Lens focus locked up 3 or 4 times during a 3 week holiday. Just turn camera off and on - no real hassle.

Score 7.0/10

+ It's got a good vibration reduction system and seems to focus well on the target area pretty quickly. Given its' maximum focal length, it is pretty light and compact too.

- Given that it's a third party lens, it seems to have difficulty talking to the camera body sometimes, but once it cranks up, it's a good lens.

+ Nicely built and well presented. Works well in the "middle" range but is somewhat difficult at major zoom. However this may just be operator error at the start!

- Heavier than expected. Autofocus can take longer than expected.

+ Excellent image quality

- Sometimes there seems to be a problem that the camera does not respond and then you have to detach the lens and after reattaching normally the problem is solved.

+ Wide focal range

- does not auto focus well in poor light or with low contrast object. When pointed downward the lens extends to maximum focal length even when not required..

+ you can not get more for your money

- when you photograf something under you so the objektiv is going to go in the teleposition from alone, there has to be a better "break" so it stays in the position you like to use it.
