And the coolest brand award goes to…

Monday, September 29th, 2008 by Jo

If you want to be cool, drive an Aston Martin, play Nintendo and wear Agent Provocateur…not necessarily all at the same time. These are some of the coolest brands around according to the annual Coolbrands survey.

Voted for by the Coolbrands council and 2,500 members of the public, Aston Martin receives the award for the coolest brand for third year running - certainly aided slightly by a certain Mr Bond who is rather partial to their vehicles.

Relative newcomer, the iPhone is in at second place, preceding the mother ship ? Apple, in third.

There?s no doubt that brands and celebrity go hand in hand. With Bond helping out in the car department and constantly-in-the-press Daisy Lowe being the face of Agent Provocateur, there?s a healthy little partnership of which somebody can be very proud.

But it?s not all down to the celebs.  With brands like Apple, Nintendo and Bang & Olufsen it shows that brands who constantly lead their field in design and innovation are worthy recipients of the accolade.

Congratulations should also go to the Tate Modern who have managed to get onto the list at number 10 - pretty impressive with all those super-brands on there.

Wii won’t be around this Christmas

Just a quickie on what we might be fighting in shops for this Christmas - The old, familiar Wii Christmas shortage is back. US games retailer GameStop predicts the shortage unless Nintendo has a massive increase in supply in the next couple of weeks. It’s unknown as to whether this will lead to shortages here in the UK but we can use wii-consoles.co.uk to stay up-to-date on the situation.

But if you don’t fancy a Wii, both the Xbox and PS3 seem to be in plentiful supply…Check out the games console reviews to find out what people think about them all.

Nintendo DS now helping with languages

Monday, June 30th, 2008 by Jo

Well, first we found out that those helpful folks over at Nintendo were helping people to stop smoking. Now we hear that they’re helping Japanese students with their English too. A teacher at the Tokyo Academy for Girls has introduced the Nintendo DS into English lessons to help students concentrate.

The DS helps the students with their writing, listening and vocabulary but they are under strict instruction that all the machines must be handed in at the end of the lesson and no other games, apart from the English aid, are to be used.

Despite the lack of fun games, the students do seem to be enjoying the new method of teaching and they’ve even commented that they’re finding the lessons more interesting and engaging.

This is still a trial at the moment but what with all these new ways we’re discovering that consoles can help people (the Wii fit helping people to lose weight, the DS helping people to quit smoking etc.), who knows where the possibilities will end.

If you’re in two minds over whether to get a DS or not, try reading the Nintendo DS reviews first.
