Wii won’t be around this Christmas

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 by Sam
Christmas_games_consoles

Just a quickie on what we might be fighting in shops for this Christmas - The old, familiar Wii Christmas shortage is back. US games retailer GameStop predicts the shortage unless Nintendo has a massive increase in supply in the next couple of weeks. It’s unknown as to whether this will lead to shortages here in the UK but we can use wii-consoles.co.uk to stay up-to-date on the situation.

But if you don’t fancy a Wii, both the Xbox and PS3 seem to be in plentiful supply…Check out the games console reviews to find out what people think about them all.

Is it a PSP, is it a Wii?…

Sonyericsson_f305

Has the PSP gone micro pocket-sized? Nope, it’s the new Sony Ericsson F305. You’d be forgiven for thinking it was a mini gaming device because it’s been decorated with the classic ‘O’ and ‘X’ buttons as well as a D-pad. They’ve even mixed in a bit of wii. Nintendo Wii, that is. The pre-loaded games on the F305 are movement-controlled, much like the Wii. You’ve got Bowling, Bass fishing and Jockey – sounds thrilling doesn’t it? But if that doesn’t get you excited, maybe the stereo speakers on the back of the handset, the Bluetooth multiplayer games, the expandable memory or the track ID will?

If you’ve been wondering about what colours the handsets come in, you can chose from polar white or mystic black, which I think may have been so-called to make the phones sound a bit more exciting. If you don’t share my scepticism, you can race to pick one up at the end of the summer. It’ll be aimed at the low to mid-range market so it shouldn’t break the bank – good job, if you ask me…

Gadget Watch - Remote war

Thursday, April 10th, 2008 by Jo

Microsoft_remote
This week’s gadget watch should be re-named ‘copy-cat watch’. If rumors are true, Microsoft, rather than admitting they missed a trick with the Nintendo Wii remotes have decided to just reproduce some of their own instead. Last week we reported that Microsoft faired pretty poorly in the 2008 Brandjunkie awards but with mixed reactions, it’s not certain whether this move will help or hinder their cause. One comment on MTV news states “This should be an indicator that Microsoft has run out of innovative ideas”. However, there are lots of positive comments too…”I’m glad Microsoft sees that and puts up some real competition for
Nintendo. I’ve held out getting a 360 but I might have to buy one now,
if this new controller gets good support”

The rumors indicate that the remote for the Xbox 360 is being developed by Rare, the Microsoft-owned studio, and will supposedly be released by the end of the year. What does everybody else think?
