What’s your favourite movie?

Best_films

As I was browsing Reevoo, trying to find a present, I decided to see which were the top rated DVDs to help me find something. I have to say that they were the strangest collection of titles and definitely not what I expected so I thought I?d share them with you all.

The top 10 most highly rated DVDs* on Reevoo.com were:

1.    Long Way Down
2.    Gavin & Stacey
3.    Dirty Dancing
4.    Sharpe
5.    Shaun the Sheep ? The Christmas Giftset DVD
6.    Peppa Pig Vol.4
7.    Lazytown
8.    Genesis - When In Rome
9.    Fifi Bumper Collection DVD
10.  Dancing On Ice

*with over 15 reviews

Pretty odd, hey? Unfortunately we can?t control people?s taste but it got me thinking about my favourite movies.

If you had to pick your top three movies of all time, what would they be?

Multisystem TVs - for a truly global experience

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 by Chris Winstanley

I was recently asked if I could recommend a 40-50" plasma TV. Pretty easy, you might think. But this person needed their new purchase to be a ‘multisystem TV’.

A multisystem TV is a fancy way of talking about a TV that can not only display the standard ‘PAL’ signals that we get in most of Europe, but can also decode the North American ‘NTSC’ format, and French and Asian ‘SECAM’ signals.

Not something most of us need to know, but hopefully for you globe-trotting types, the following might prove useful:

Most TVs these days can display both PAL and NTSC signals, as they share a lot of similarities. Decoding SECAM signals is a different story however - worth bearing in mind if you are planning to move to France!

The best multisystem TV I’ve come across to fit my friend’s requirements is this 42" LG plasma, which
is compatible with all three formats, and has a score of 9.1 out of 10
on Reevoo.

If you’re not sure which tuner combination you might need, this handy map from Wikipedia might be helpful.

Top TVs for HD Olympics

Thursday, July 24th, 2008 by Jo

sony-bravia-kdl40x2000

There are 15 days to go before the Beijing Olympic games and this year will be the first time we can watch them in HD in the UK. Pretty exciting stuff. For those of you who don’t know, HD is high-definition and it’s all about more pixels and much clearer pictures for our TV sets.  It makes watching sports events, wildlife programmes - well, anything really - way better.

We’ve looked at all the full HD TV reviews over on Reevoo to find the best ones. TVs are rated on their design, sound quality, image quality and value for money. People are then asked if they would recommend the TV set.

Here’s the top five:

1.    Sony Bravia KDL40X2000 - £999
2.    Panasonic TX-32LZD80 - £724
3.    Samsung LE37A656A - £679
4.    Panasonic TH42PZ80 - £724
5.    Panasonic TH42PZ85B - £864

And here’s how we got there:

So top of the list was the Sony Bravia KDL40X2000 but interestingly, it lost out to the Panasonic TH42PZ80 for image quality and the Samsung LE37A656A for design.

If you’re looking for a top all-rounder, the Sony is obviously the one to go for but it’s also the most expensive. The Panasonic TH42PZ80 leads the pack for image quality, which should be one of the top considerations when buying an HD TV. It’s also over £200 cheaper and it’s been recommended by 96% of the people who bought it. This would be my choice.

If you’re not convinced about HD, there are lots of other TVs around. You can check out all of the TV reviews over on Reevoo.

iPod cases with a difference

Thursday, July 10th, 2008 by Jo

Following on from our fun iPod docks post, we’ve got a cracking set of iPod skins and cases for you today.

Ifrogz_tadpole_ipod_case_2
I had to start with the iFrogz Tadpole iPod Case, which is meant to be for children but I was semi-tempted. It’s bright and extra shock absorbent so that you don’t have to worry about little ones (or slightly larger ones), dropping them. It also means that you’ll never lose it in your handbag…It’s 100% coated silicon so that it repels dust and lint.  This is compatible with 30, 60 or 80GB iPod Classics and will set you back £24.99.

Toro_treo_case_2

If you’re a more stylish individual, may I suggest this leather case for your Classic? Toro’s Treo leather case has a clear plastic screen protector so that you never lose sight of your music and a rotating belt clip that (I didn’t write this bit) “lets you experiment the best fit to look as snazzy as possible”.  They’re £12.99 and come in pink and brown leather.

Gelaskins_red_robot_ipod_case_3

If you like a patterned case, there’s bunch of cool cases called Gelaskins. They come in different sizes for different types of iPod. This one is the Red Robot design but you can be as bold or as understated as you like because there are loads of different designs. This 2nd Generation Nano case is £9.99 and available over at iPod World.

Griffin_disko_ipod_case

For flashy types, the Griffin Technology disko is the case for you. As well as the protective, tough polycarbonate shell, the LEDs flash and swirl away in motion-activated light sequences. Forget disco balls, this can control a party all on its own. They’re £16.95 from MacHeaven.

Hymn_book_ipod_case_2

For the cautious amongst you, why not keep your iPod from thieves by disguising it as a…hymn book? The case is designed for 30, 60 and 80GB Classics but if you have any other make that’s about the same size, it should work for them too.  For £15,’cherishing’ your music has never been so easy. (sorry).

If you’re debating over whether or not to get an iPod or another brand of player, you can read the MP3 player reviews to help you decide. If you’re set on getting an iPod, check out all of the iPod reviews so that you can find the best one for you.

Blu-ray mega sandwich

Pioneer_400gb_disk

News just in that those clever chaps over at Pioneer have managed to produce the first 16-layer optical disk with a whopping 400GB capacity. Each layer adds 25GB to this spectacular plastic sandwich. Unfortunately they’re are read-only at the moment but they’ve all got their heads down to develop recordable versions.

If you’re wondering whether these disks will be compatible with existing Blu-ray gear, Pioneer insist they will. These prototypes will be on show on 13th July at the International Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage 2008 in Hawaii, so we’ll hopefully know more then. We’ll keep you posted.
