Mobile World Congress round-up - best mobile handsets

The GSMA Mobile World Congress took place last week and no doubt you’ve been hearing all about innovative mobile handsets ever since. Here’s a round-up of some of the best phones at MWC.

Sony Ericsson Idou

The Sony Ericsson Idou will seriously impress with its camera when it eventually goes on sale. It will be the World’s first 12 megapixel camera phone! Pretty impressive.

The Idou also packs in quality music and video playback in this sleek handset. It will be available towards the second half of this year with a shiny new name. We’ll keep you posted.

HTC Magic

The HTC Magic is the follow-up to the G1 and the second handset powered by Google’s Android interface. However, this time the handset will be exclusively available through Vodafone, rather than T-Mobile. It comes equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera, MP3 player, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and trackball. It’s 3.2” QVGA touchscreen is home to an on-screen keyboard so, unlike the G1, there’s no slide-out QWERTY keyboard, making it a lot slimmer.

Samsung OmniaHD

If you’re big on making videos on your mobile, this is the phone for you. It records in 720p which, when hooked up to your HD TV, will let you view all your clips in HD. It also has a huge 3.7” touchscreen and classic, sleek Samsung style – try saying that after a few…

And if recording in HD wasn’t enough, you can dabble in some serious photography with its 8 megapixel camera. Then upload them all to the net super fast with HSDPA technology, allowing you to upload (or download) a 4MB MP3 song in less than 10 seconds and a 40MB movie in 1 minute.

You’ll also need somewhere to store all that media so the Samsung OmniaHD has up to 48GB of storage (8GB or 16GB models available with 32 GB microSD card). That’s 35 DVD-quality movies or 18,000 8MP photographs!

There’s also an FM radio, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Samsung say the OmniaHD will be available in spring this year.

LG GD900

A pretty phone with the wow factor, the LG GD900 is a handset for those who want to impress. It’s sleek and sexy but best of all is the slide-out transparent keyboard. It glows so that you can see it in the dark and rather impressively, it retains its figure at a slinky 13mm thick.

Look out for this showstopper in Q2 this year. We’ll also let you know what other goodies it holds, other than HSDPA and a second camera for video calls.

Nokia N86 8MP

There’s 8GB of internal storage for all your photos and videos but you can increase this with microSD memory cards up to 16GB.

Other features include GPS, Ovi and Flickr uploading, N-Gage games and Bluetooth. Get your hands on the Nokia N86 8MP in spring 2009 for around £330.

LG Arena

lg-arena1

The LG Arena is a really exciting phone. It has a unique 3D touch-driven interface dubbed “S-Class” which makes it fun to use, it’s packed full of features and LG will soon be opening up its own app store so that you can download lots of applications and totally customise it.

It has a 3” touchscreen, a 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, Dolby Mobile and DivX support. There’s also an FM transmitter which makes it possible to send tunes to your HiFi or car stereo wirelessly.

I’ll say no more, just check out this nifty video courtesy of our good friends over at Omio to see the Arena in action:
