Gadget Watch - Telephoto lens for your mobile

Greenhouse_zoom_2

This week’s Gadget Watch brings us a telephoto lens for mobile phones launched by Green-House in Japan. This universal lens also connects up to a tripod and transforms your phone’s humble camera into a 8x zoom machine. Now all you need to do is fit the thing in your bag. Not so great for those of us who opt for pocket-friendly handsets. We don’t think it’ll mean the end for SLRs in the near future. What do you think?

If you’re serious about your photography and in the market for some zoom action, we recommend looking through the reviews from people that have bought proper cameras and lenses. At the moment, shoppers have rated the Panasonic FZ50 Black as the best performing SLR and the Canon Ef 24 105MM Is Usm  as the best lens.

8x zoom is pretty enormous. I don’t have a cameraphone, but if I did I would be pretty tempted. Being able to photograph wildlife without lugging around an SLR would be really good.

You’d want to check out the picture quality and the price first though.

Rumors say that it’s around $88 but if you’re into taking pictures wouldn’t you just have a small but powerful digi camera? Most of the phones with decent cameras are bulky anyway so with this lens added in, I don’t think there’d be much of a size difference…and would you really carry around something that shape in your pocket?!

I agree with the above post. In theory its a good enough idea, but you would need to check out the quality of the pictures beforehand. Not sure it will lead to the end of SLRs. I doubt it will have the same functionality as a SLR. One major plus point has got to be the price. $88 is an absolute bargain compared to a decent SLR.

Hey it seems like a pretty good idea, not sure about its portability, but if you’re an avid picture taker thats beginning to take things more seriously it no doubt illustrates a safer option than forking out for a digital camera. Regarding price this certainly seems the case, though i’m open to correction! Though it also has the benefit of longevity as your phone will always be used to take pictures and the camera may lie collecting dust in your room, actually…i’m sure i had a camera in here somewhere
