Paris based Banexi Ventures Invests in Reevoo

March 19th, 2008 by Richard Anson

I am delighted to announce that Banexi Ventures Partners, based in Paris, have invested in Reevoo. They have a wealth of relevant experience, not least from backing Kelkoo.

We will be using the investment to drive our international expansion – yes we launch in France today. Nicolas, our head of Reevoo France on the ground in Paris, has been working hard over the past few months preparing for our launch.

We will of course continue to enhance our services to UK retailers, shoppers and manufacturers – as ever we aim to over deliver on our promises.

Congratulations and a big thank you to the growing Reevoo team whose passion and commitment have made this possible.

We have real momentum, with exciting times ahead!

An update from Reevoo

February 4th, 2008 by Richard Anson

I realise its been a long time since my last post – like our retail partners, Christmas was a very busy time of year for us.

On Friday, I was preparing a quarterly report for my shareholders, which made me reflect on how much we have achieved over the past quarter, for our retailers, for shoppers and for the Reevoo team here in London. Here’s a couple of highlights:

Last December, the team got live a record 16 new UK online retailers, including T-mobile. We remain by far the largest provider of impartial, genuine user reviews to UK online retail. Boxing Day was a peak day for us and we served up over 1,500,000 ReevooMarks across our UK partner network. Our knowledge of UK e-tail and the needs of retailers and shoppers continues to grow, as does our product offering to meet these needs.

What delights me further is that we are now delivering on the second half of our promise – becoming a great source of shoppers for our retail partners. By great, I mean shoppers who have already been helped through the selection process, who know which product they want and hence have a high “conversion rate”. We know that shoppers who visit our retail partners from reevoo.com are some of the most highly qualified visitors on the UK web today.

Our initial focus on reevoo.com has been on a single category, TVs. We have more work to do here, keep watching it over the coming weeks. We will then start a programme to roll out the functionality and design across the whole of reevoo.com.

We are smarter than me - Reevoo podcast

November 13th, 2007 by Richard Anson

Aaron Strout of We are smarter than me – the community collaboration project managed by Wharton Business School, Pearson and the MIT Sloan School of Management recently interviewed me.

They have just published their first book We are smarter than me, which used crowd sourcing to generate much of the content and are now looking for contributions to their second book which is around how community is changing the way companies do sales and marketing.

Reevoo win 2007 Best Use of Technology Award

November 5th, 2007 by Richard Anson

Reevoo won the Best Use of Technology Category at the 2007 UK Startups Awards.

Its great that all the hard work of the growing team here as been recognised – a huge congratulations to everyone.

The Judges Commented:

“Judges were particularly impressed with Reevoo because they thought it successfully tapped into the participatory nature of Web 2.0. They also felt the business consisted of robust technology that was clear, simple and easy for clients to interpret. The company has developed an impressive online brand with great potential, with solid backers and good scope for expansion.”

Chris and I attended the lunch, as you would expect there was a big buzz, and it was great talking to the guys at LadyZone – watch them expand their gym concept nationwide.

Consumer Electronics Market Equals GDP of Netherlands

October 29th, 2007 by Richard Anson

According to the Guardian, the world consumer electronics market is expected to reach US$618.6bn – or $100 for each person on Planet Earth – pretty outstanding considering the disparities of income and wealth across the world.

Our desire for gadgets and lifestyle products is a strong as ever with 63% of the market accounted for by flat screen TVs, laptops and mobile phones.

They report that Chinese households will spend ten times less than the average annual per household spend in Western Europe of US$1,028. Whats interesting (but not surprising) is that China’s spending is growing fastest but that Japan is expected to record its “first decline in annual consumer electronics spending next year as agruably the world’s oldest consumer electronics market shows all the hallmarks of a mature market”.

UK Online Shoppers by Far the Biggest Spenders in Europe

October 24th, 2007 by Richard Anson

The FT yesterday reported that on-line retailing in the UK will total Euro19.5 bn from 1 Oct to 25 December 07, 40% up on last year, according to research by Forrester. The UK accounts for 38.5% of the e-tail market in Europe, compared to 22.7% for Germany and 12.7% for France. Leisure travel is still the largest category of European online sales at 31%, followed by electronics at 14%.

Internet Retail 2007 and All About Reevoo

October 24th, 2007 by Richard Anson

Its been awhile since I have posted…

Earlier this month, we were at Internet Retail 2007 in London, which was a great event for us, with a huge amount of interest in genuine, impartial customer reviews and how they can be used to help people decide what to buy. The Reevoo team did a fantastic job – a belated thank you to Chris who organised Reevoo’s presence, including arranging for 400 doughnuts to be delivered to the Reevoo stand for all the delegates.

While I was there, I gave an impromptu interview. You can see part one, here and part two, here – yes its long…but covers where we have come from, what we are about and where we want to go.

Doing even more with user generated content

September 20th, 2007 by Luke Errington

I’ve just read a great piece from James Cherkoff (who helped Reevoo in the early days) urging marketeers to stop broadcasting, start listening, and do something really intelligent with all the reviews and other user generated content that is available to them.

James’ post says much more and I’d urge you to read it, but it got me thinking about what we’re doing at Reevoo in relation to this.

  1. We’re starting to talk to manufacturers about how they can use the reviews content to improve the products they are building

  2. Most of our retail partners are listening to and acting upon the customer feedback they receive about delivery and service
  3. We’re trialling a Top 3 badge for retailers that promotes the Top 3 products as rated by customers
  4. On reevoo.com we’ll soon be highlighting to users the top rated product within the category or sub-category they are looking at

It’s the next big challenge – doing some really smart stuff with that user generated content to help more people decide what to buy, help our retailers to offer their customers something extraordinary and help manufacturers to build products that are better at meeting the real needs of the customer.

Only 38%

September 20th, 2007 by Luke Errington

Yet more evidence that customers want reviews and testimonials, BUT only 38% of retail websites offer them.
