A premium Sony has topped shoppers’ ratings of the best flatscreen TVs. The Bravia Z series has all the modern features, including 1080p, capped by the ability to display pictures at 200Hz frequency, meaning that all fast-moving sports action is displayed with pin sharp clarity. The picture isn’t the only thing that needs to look good for a Gold-winning TV though, and shoppers were delighted by the Bravia’s aesthetics, dominated by Sony’s ‘Draw the Line’ concept.

+ Quality pictures, even in SD.
- The gloss surround. Picks up every reflection which is distracting. A matt finish would be more practical and would look much better.

+ Images are of excellant quality with deep blacks and shadows. Realistic colours with good hue and tone. Smoothness of image makes viewing easy. On screen menu is easy to navigate. Set-up designed for the non-technical. Connection options are generous and up-to-date
- Photo display should have dynamic option as per digital photoframes. Thumbnails of photos would help selection. Projecting sound bar at bottom prevents standing unit upright during fixing operation for wall or large stand mounting. No indication of thread type or length of fixing screw holes.
