2009 Customer Choice Awards in Satellite navigation
And the 2009 Customer Choice Awards award winner is...
- Car Radio Navigation System (1 Din)
- On board Flash Memory
- Monitor type: Fixed Monitor
Why it Won
Accuracy and ease of use are particularly important in sat navs and this TomTom doesn’t disappoint on either count. The clear screen and instructions which give plenty of warning before any action needs to be taken are favoured by consumers. It’s compact so that you can carry it in your handbag or leave it in your glove compartment and TomTom seem to have picked just the right price point for consumers. Owners also like the fact that they’re always up-to-date with Map Share technology.

It's really easy to use. Within minutes of switching it on it was obvious what we needed to do. It's good that you change the voice that speaks to you - some of the voices were quite annoying. It was good to have a choice. It's nice that you can personalise it exactly how you want it - even down to screen information, type of map etc.
Instructions are given in advance of you reaching roundabouts etc, and repeated again when you are on the roundabout - found this really helpful.
If you accidentally take a wrong turning, then the sat nav will rectify the problem and get you back on track almost immediately.
Also, especially on starting a journey from my house, if it is obvious to me that I can get to a certain point in a more direct way than what the sat nav suggests (at the journey start), you can make your own way and then re-pick up the route again from the point that you need help.
Excellent at warning you when you are approaching speed cameras, and also when you are going too fast and just over the speed limit.
Definitely recommended - if I had know how simple they were to use I would have got one years ago.

Haven't found any with the gadget itself yet - but I have only been using it since Christmas.
I wish the thing that you use to attach to your windscreen (to put the tom tom on) was easier to use - it was harder getting it to stay on the windscreen than it was to programme the sat nav etc.

+ Even for a GPS novice like me this was easy to set up and use, straight out of the box. It is quick to recalculate a route if I do miss a turn. The built in window attachment is a good idea as a space saver, but a bit fiddly to use. At the time of purchase it was a absolute bargain at the price too.
- It ought to be supplied with a wall charger.
